With Marvel and DC's timeline creating a fire storm for the foreseeable future, it seems headlines are never absent of our favourite rainbow coloured crime busters. The Marvel Cinematic Universe in particular are looking to rake in more royalties than a million RDJ's by depicting many of the characters origin stories. That's a shit tonne of movies and pay slips.
One character that's recently stung amid the comic book buzz is trigger happy antihero The Punisher, following the confirmation that Fury actor and The Walking Dead antagonist, Jon Bernthal will portray the vindictive Frank Castle in what presumes to be a cold-cocking perfomance in Season two of the Netflix original series Daredevil.
Comic aficionados have already spotted Bernthal in and out comic stores, building his research to play the vigilante that will take a certain degree of brawn and poignant catharsis to delve into the mind of an abandoned patriarch. This degree of ambivalent expression that Bernthal hooked audiences on while playing collegial Shane Walsh alongside Deputy Rick Grimes on the ground breaking AMC zombie prime time show, The Walking Dead, thus showcasing his penchant for ass kicking and visceral controversy.
Our excitement has left us clapping like seals at the prospect of Marvel following patterns and conjuring its origin story soon after super/anti heroes shake the dust off, and to lubricate the segue even easier, there's been a certain British au fait to brawling who's keen to load the revolvers and don the translucent skull.
Tom Hardy, the British outline of napalm machoism, and a winning contender for portraying Frank Castle's origin story, expressed his enthusiasm at playing the ex-marine mercenary. He told Collider:
‘I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.’
Although conflicting rumours have whispered that Hardy is still in cahoots with DC about a different role, after his abrupt departure from David Ayers Suicide Squad where he was to play leader Rick Flag, the fat lady has not yet uttered a note and fans are still in support despite Hardy's sizeable problems.
‘I’m not big enough to be The Punisher,’ he said. ‘I’m 5’9”’
However favoured [Mad Max: Fury Road](tag:41445)'s casting would be, should creators use Jon Bernthal's appearance in Daredevil as the window to the big screen?
