Hello, my name is Darek Zabrocki and I'm 24-year-old Polish concept artist and illustrator. I almost never write about myself since it makes me quite embarrassed but I was asked to do this by the super nice guys from Moviepilot and I couldn't say no :) I will try to introduce myself in a few words and show you some of my work. Hope you will like it :)
I always loved what I do these days, but to be honest, I never took it so seriously. For a long time I only dreamed about working as an illustrator or a concept artist. Around 2007/2008 I bought my first tablet and made a smooth switch to digital media after drawing and painting traditionally for many years. I felt like this was an opportunity for me and that I could actually try to make a living out of it in the future. After some practice, I started getting my first small jobs and I really felt more motivated than ever. Around 2012 I decided to work even harder to do my first breakthrough into the concept art industry, and it finally happened after months of hard work and publishing my work around the web! Last year, I landed in my first inhouse job as a concept artist at Sony Guerrilla Games in the UK.
A couple weeks ago, I finished my contract and went back to Poland to continue working as a freelancer, working on projects like Assassin's Creed: Syndicate and quite a few others :) Since as a concept artist I use mostly photoshop and a tablet, I realized lately that I really miss traditional tools and I went back to sketching and doodling stuff on paper in my spare time.
It's something that I miss doing, because sketching on tablet is quite different. When you sketch traditionally, you can actually feel you are doing it in an intuitive and very natural way.
Anyway, both techniques are amazing and I can't imagine doing something else now. I am trying my best in 3D lately as well. My goal for the summer (if there is enough time haha) is to learn a bit more about Zbrush software, which actually imitates sculpting in real life!
Besides doing art and working for many hours in front of my screen I have a lot of other hobbies. I am trying to keep myself in a good shape working out at gym at least 3-4 x per week for instance. Apart from this, I am passionate about music, history and learning new things. I love watching documentaries and just learn like being at school again. I believe the more I know, the better an artist I can be. Understanding and discovering new things makes your ideas more unique and helps you evolve, not only as an artist but also as a person. Anyway, I don't want to bore you with my stories so below you can find some examples of my works, mostly from my personal set of pieces since most of the stuff I do for work is still unreleased and cannot be shown.
I also try to keep my social media accounts up to date, connecting with people who follow me or need any help. Feel free to follow me on my facebook and instagram where I post my newest stuff and all announcements :) Thank you
