At the very real risk of being called a hater, I can not help but tell the truth. I hate this movie. I also enjoyed it. You have no idea how hard it is to say that nor how much it truly pains me.

By the way, just so everyone is clear. My name is Kyler Wilson and I am but one half of the MovieHolics team. Monica, the other half, loved this film. So my opinions should not be considered the opinions of her. Now that we have that out of the way...

Why in the hell is everyone tripping over themselves for this movie. Why is this movie breaking records at the box office? Why does this movie even exist considering that no lawyer in their right mind would ever green light the opening of this park after the events of the first 3 movies. I can't even get over that. If I can't get over that, how am I to watch this movie without constantly questioning it?

We just finished our review of the film and my question still remains. Does a fun film make a good film? My answer? Unequivocally, the answer is no. Did I have fun with this film? Sure. I also had fun with the original Evil Dead film. IT IS STILL A TERRIBLE FILM. Why do I bring any of this up? Because with this reboot they had the opportunity to really revitalize the franchise and instead chose to make a big dumb monster film. Jurassic Park was not that kind of movie. Jurassic Park made you ask questions and think about the possible ramifications of humans trying to play god.

This movie did exactly 0 of that.

I also think it is really quite funny how the film is essentially conveying the message that bigger and scarier is not always better, yet that is EXACTLY what this film is. It is an attempt to be bigger and scarier and in doing so it falls right on its big dumb monster movie face.

That being said, I still enjoyed the film. I think my animosity is a result of knowing what the movie could have been and seeing what it became. This movie stinks to high heaven with one dimensional characters, bad plot, and bad cg. Unfortunately for me, this movie is blowing up at the box office so any hope of practical effects and good story telling coming back to this franchise is nil at best.

I weep for the cast and crew of Jurassic Park. I can only imagine how painful it is to see the magic they created in the first film be turned into a freak show.

Sincerely, Moviehol errrr......Kyler Wilson
