Marvel films, though highly popular, are still the topic of many debates. Some think they're good, others think not so much. But one thing that is almost universally agreed on is how good Marvel is at casting their heroes.
So far, their heroes have been represented on screen perfectly, with astounding casting choices like Chris Evans as Captain America, or Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, being like the character literally jumped from the pages and onto film.
And Marvel has never really gone back on a casting choice, they prefer to seal the deal and trust the person they cast to do their part. So when Marvel says they want Beyonce, it's no mistake.
They Want Beyonce
The 33-year-old singer-songwriter, and occasional actress is being eyed by Marvel execs for an unknown part in their acclaimed Cinematic Universe, an unnamed Disney senior executive told The Daily Star:
“We would love to have Beyoncé on board, almost certainly as a newcomer to the screen from Marvel’s existing catalogue of comic book characters.”
Now at first, I thought this was some elaborate prank by Marvel to fool the world, but then I remembered that April Fool's has long since passed.
Now, like I said before, Marvel has been spot on so far with their casting choices. But that doesn't mean I'd blindly go along with every decision they made. If they cast Justin Bieber as the Hulk, I'd have some things to say.
But that being said, Beyonce has proven herself to be a great actress in the past, winning awards for her roles in the Austin Powers film Goldmember and the 2006 musical drama Dreamgirls.
So even though I'm a bit wary of this casting, I'm willing to give her a chance. But if Marvel does decide to cast Beyonce in the MCU, who could she be? It'd most likely be a role that hasn't been announced yet, unless they're planning to cast her as Captain Marvel; which I would be totally against, but only because I'm gunning for that role to go to Emily Blunt.
Regardless, here are some comic book characters I think the "Queen B" could portray!
Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk)!
I'm not going to write this article, pretending to be a huge fan of Beyonce who knows everything about her, because in all honesty, I'm closer to the opposite of that. I don't know much about the singer, but I do know that she's been known to be a strong and smart role model for women (except for those times when she was not).
While certainly not on the level of smartness or strength as Jennifer Walters (I don't think anyone could be), I think she could handle playing the smart and law-savvy lawyer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I've never seen her punch a brick wall to pieces, but I think she could handle being She-Hulk as well. Especially since She-Hulk, unlike her angry cousin, can control her emotions, and can transform at will, while still maintaining her clever law school graduate mentality.
Plus, this role would be super easy to introduce without a solo film. With Civil War coming, and so many heroes about to fight each other, and likely cause tons of property damage in the process, they're going to need a good lawyer and, well, Murdock can't represent them all.
'Yonce for She-Hulk?
Heather Douglas (Moondragon)!
No, that is not an authentic picture of a bald-headed Beyonce, but you've gotta admit she looks pretty good shaved. That and her general assertive personality makes her a dead ringer for Moondragon in my book.
Not too many people know who Moondragon is, she's one of the more obscure characters of the Marvel universe. But despite her D-list status, she has some close relations with some popular Marvel A-listers; including her rampage-addicted father, Drax the Destroyer.
With Drax introduced into the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy, it would make sense for his daughter to make an appearance as well. Especially considering Drax's storyline is that he believes that his entire family was murdered by Ronan, a fact he doesn't know is untrue.
Moondragon, like She-Hulk, has never been represented on live-action TV before, and would also be easy to introduce without the promise of a solo venture. Just stick her in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, have her and Drax reunite and become the toughest father/daughter duo in the cosmos!
Or have her show up in Thor: Ragnarok, both movies are going to deal with space, the Infinity Stones and battles, the three things Moondragon is most known for.
'Yonce as Moondragon?
Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman)!
With Spider-Man (sort of) back in the hands of Marvel, some fans wonder if that counts for all Spiderverse characters, like Jessica Drew. Some wonder if Jessica was even in the hands of Sony at all. Contracts are confusing.
But if Spider-Woman is safely in the hands of Marvel, I think she deserves her own film. Sure, it'd be a Phase 4 thing, but I'm totally willing to wait for it.
However, if Marvel does cast Beyonce as the quadruple-jointed Avenger, she'd probably be introduced a little sooner than Phase 4. Introducing her in either Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, or the upcoming untitled Spider-Man reboot would probably be the best way to go.
Or, and this is a bit unlikely, Marvel could introduce Jessica Drew in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. After all, the character has some strong ties with the organization, specifically, she infiltrated it as an agent of Hydra , when she thought Hydra were the good guys.
Introducing Jessica this way would also potentially bring about the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D sister base, the Sentient World Observation and Response Department, or S.W.O.R.D (yes, really).
'Yonce as Spider-Woman?
Greer Grant Nelson (Tigra)!
Not to be confused with Cheetah, the DC comics character that is for some reason a main antagonist of Wonder Woman (guess Mediocre Woman wasn't a good parallel), Tigra is a Marvel superhero with a pretty impressive set of powers.
Her feline appearance is more than just a design choice, she can scratch, claw and bite like a real tiger! She's also got astute hearing, keen senses and insane flexibility and agility. Basically, she's got all the abilities of a superhuman and an ordinary tiger. Your worst nightmare.
Beyonce does not have incredible tiger-like skills, or orange and black striped skin, but I feel like if Marvel listed those as requirements for the role of Tigra, they'd get nowhere as far casting goes.
Like She-Hulk or Moondragon, Tigra requires a certain intensity and assertiveness that I believe Ms. Knowles possesses. I mean she poses with tigers after all!
'Yonce for Tigra?
Well, we won't know who Beyonce is until Marvel reveals it, assuming they decide to work with her at all. But if they do, who do you want to see "Sasha Fierce" portray in the MCU?
