Now, for a guy who's known to shout "Hulk is the strongest one there is" at the slightest provocation, there have over the years been a whole lot of instances of the Marvel universe's heroes and villains proving Bruce Banner's rage-fuelled green alter-ego pretty spectacularly wrong.

After all, Hulk may well be ridiculously strong, but if he thinks he's the strongest one there is in a universe that also includes the likes of Galactus, then it's not going to be a huge surprise if he gets his butt handed to him every now and then.

The Hulk is strong but full of hubris...
The Hulk is strong but full of hubris...

What, though, if Hulk were to find himself in an entirely different comic-book universe? Like, for instance, DC comics'?

Which DC Heroes (and Villains) Would Be Able to Beat the Hulk?

Well, let's take a look at a few likely contenders who'd actually stand a chance...

First up:

7. Captain Marvel/Shazam

Since Captain Marvel (or, as he's now officially known, Shazam) has been beaten by Thor in the '90s DC/Marvel crossover, and Thor has frequently been matched or bested by Hulk over the years in Marvel comic-dom, this one might well seem a little improbable. That being said, with Shazam being powerful enough to give Superman a decent fight, there's every chance that - on a good day - he could tackle the Hulk...

6. Wonder Woman

Admittedly, if it came down to a punching match, Wonder Woman may well not quite match up to the Hulk (she's insanely powerful, but his strength is arguably limitless). Match up her ingenuity and tactical nous against his endless rage, though, and there's a good chance she'd be able to come up with a way to use her wider range of powers to take him down...

5. Darkseid

Aside from the fact that he is ridiculously physically powerful, super-intelligent and basically immortal, Darkseid also has the use of Omega Beams, which can basically erase someone from existence. Sure, it's possible that Hulk would be invulnerable to them (as Superman sort-of is), but I doubt Bruce Banner'd want to bet on it...

4. Doomsday

In many ways this'd actually be a surprisingly fair fight - both the Hulk and Doomsday have strikingly similar abilities and power levels - but you'd have to assume that anyone who could kill Superman (albeit temporarily) would have a decent chance of taking down the Hulk...

3. Green Lantern

Yup, that's right - the much maligned Green Lantern could totally take down The Hulk. In fact, he already has, way back in Unlimited Access #1. It kind of makes sense, too - while Hulk'd be able to take out a Lantern in hand to hand combat, as skilled a hero as one of Earth's Green Lantern's would surely make sure it never came to that, using their ring at a distance, and out-thinking the not-so-jolly green giant...

2. Superman

Another contest that the comics have already told us doesn't usually end too well for Hulk, a battle against Superman is exactly the sort of fight no-one should ever consciously enter into. After all, he's basically a God - and has similarly borderline limitless powers to the Hulk. Add in the flying, the heat vision and the fact that The Hulk isn't infused with Kryptonite, and you have to assume Supes has this one in the bag...

1. Batman

Yup. That's right. Not only has Batman already taken down the Hulk, but he technically managed to do it through kicking him into submission. Sure, it was technically just a trick to get him to inhale gas that'd knock him out, but hell - that's exactly the kind of quick thinking (and use of gadgetry) that's what makes this one the most clear-cut contest of them all...

After all: Batman Always Wins.

What Do You Think, Though?
