Ant-Man and the Wasp

Now this is not a click-bait post or a rumor. This was confirmed by Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios President) himself in an interview, thanks to Collider (linked at bottom of page).

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed to MTV that the Wasp will have a role to play in Ant-Man. While he didn't go into massive details, he did say more than we could have expected.

So as a little bit of backstory, Janet Van Dyne had a child with Hank Pym, who is named Hope Van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly).

We already know that Hope Van Dyne has a large role in this movie along with Hank Pym, being that they both train him to use the Ant-Man suit effectively. Janet Van Dyne of course is Wasp.

“She factors in a number of spoiler-ish ways, but we will see Janet Van Dyne in action in this film, and sort of what happened to her. And then we will understand why that is the reason that he (Hank Pym) doesn’t want his daughter to follow in those footsteps. One of the reasons why he’s always so upset about superheroes in general, dismissive of them in general and also a reason why he doesn’t want her to put on the suit.

However while Janet Van Dyne will appear, we unfortunately won't really get to see The Wasp in full and we don't really know what actress is playing her.

"We only see Janet when she’s in the helmet. She’s in the outfit. So you just sort of see eyes."

We're not sure how exactly she will appear, but it will likely be a short flashback scene. So as we won't really be seeing a lot of The Wasp herself in this movie, there is a chance that in an Ant-Man sequel or another MCU film, we will get to see The Wasp join the Avengers. After all, she is a founding member of the Avengers as well as a long time leader of the team (in the comics).

Her powers are similar to Ant-Mans in terms of the shrinking, but besides that, she has some other things;

  • Size manipulation
  • Flight
  • Bio-electric energy blasts
  • Telepathic insect control

Now here's another comment from Kevin Feige that hints the possibility of Hope becoming the Wasp.

“There are things that we see towards the end of the film that indicate (Hope Van Dyne) could get one of her own.”

Also, to add onto that, Evangeline was asked if Hope becomes The Wasp by the end of the film and she said that Marvel "made her physically capable” and that “almost” all of her action was based in reality, not on green screen. But here's the really great part; she mentioned that she has signed a multi-picture deal.

So even though we may not see her become the Wasp in this movie, Hope Van Dyne will be back again in future MCU films, either in Ant-Man sequels or other films, or perhaps both. At that time, we can expect and hope that she will indeed take over the Wasp outfit, and join the Avengers.

The Ant-Man movie will be released on July 17th, then get ready to see him again in 'Captain America: Civil War' next year!

Don't forget, this is just an analysis of a small part of their interview. The full interview with other exciting news can be read here:
