2015 has already proven itself to be a fantastic year for film, with the emotional roller coaster that was Furious 7 sending audiences on an unparalleled thrill ride, Jurassic World having made history by stomping box office records, and Mad Max: Fury Road blowing all expectations out of the water with 2 hours of pure, unadulterated awesomeness! And who can forget the superhero brilliance that was The Avengers: Age of Ultron?
Even so, passionate moviegoers are already looking ahead to Hollywood's horizon, gearing up for for 2016's cinematic delights - but which film deserves the coveted honor of being next year's most anticipated box office offering?
Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes thinks he knows the answer, and, considering his employment status, you won't be surprised to learn which movie he picked. Speaking at an annual shareholders meeting, Bewkes said there was “no more anticipated” movie for 2016 than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but do you agree with him?
5 (Other) Hotly Anticipated Movies of 2016
Let's take a look at a selection of other worthy candidates, all vying to be 2016's most anticipated release - you be the judge of which should win!
1. Captain America: Civil War
Yes, it's the movie Marvel fans everywhere have been clamoring for! Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are set to clash over the controversial Superhuman Registration Act; an epic conflict sure to deliver unexpected thrills, bombastic action sequences and, quite possibly, a tragic death. This one certainly ranks highly on the excite-o-meter.
2. Star Wars: Rogue One
We've still got the incredible-looking Episode VII to look forward to before the year's out, but Gareth Edwards' Star Wars side story is sure to deliver an irresistible sci-fi treat come next Christmas.
Set between Episode III and A New Hope, Rogue One will connect the dots between Lucas' trilogies and hopefully provide fans with a more gritty and grounded plot, filled with subterfuge, rebellion and scheming. Oh, and plenty of X-Wings. I can't wait!
3. Independence Day 2
Will Smith might be absent this time round, but after almost 20 years of waiting for a follow up to the awesome original, I'll take anything I can get. Bolstered with modern day special effects, a catastrophic alien invasion wreaking death and destruction will never look so beautiful...
4. Finding Dory
The follow up to my favorite Pixar movie of all time has a lot to live up to, but I've never doubted the endlessly talented studio, and there's no reason to start doing so now. Watch out Terminator 2, this could go down as the best sequel of all time!
5. Ghostbusters 3
Paul Feig's all-star cast of female busters will strap on their proton packs next summer, ushering in a new era for this legendary franchise. If the script is anywhere near as funny as the first two movies, this one really will be unmissable. Just don't cross the streams ladies, or we could be in for a disaster of biblical proportions.
So, what do you think - is Batman v Superman really 2016's most anticipated release, or have you got your eye on another?
