Could Hugo Weaving (Red Skull), who is contracted for 3 Marvel Cinematic Universe films, be back for [The Avengers: Infinity War](tag:738027)?

After the release of Captain America: The First Avenger, Weaving began to do promotional appearances for the upcoming film [The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey](tag:21016)(2012). During that time we was quoted in an interview with Collider as saying;

"I think the tendency, with those films, would be to probably not bring a villain back. They might for The Avengers, but I didn’t think I’d be in Captain America 2 or 3."

"I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn’t want to force someone to do it, if they didn’t want to”.

But why wouldn't Hugo Weaving want to reprise his role as the best MCU villain, Red Skull? Well, back in 2012 he also said;

“I think I’ve done my dash with that sort of film. It was good to do it and try it out, but to be honest, it’s not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by. As an actor, to do all sorts of different films is great. It stretches you in different ways. But, I increasingly like to go back to what I used to always do, which is to get involved with projects that I really have a personal affiliation with.”

"I think" isn't a very convincing start to a paragraph. Three years can do a lot to change one's opinion. Especially if he is noticing the massive success of the franchise and the impact that he/Red Skull has had.

The success of the franchise, along with the large sum of ca$h that comes with doing a high budget film like The Avengers, may just be the right incentive to bring Hugo Weaving back on board for Infinity War.

At the moment Hugo Weaving does not have any future films lined-up on his IMDB page. This could leave a place in his schedule to film The Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1 & 2.

So if Red Skull does return, where has he been?

Theory 1: He's In Space

Seconds before he vanishes in a beam of light

When Red Skull grabs the Cube he endures a near exact experience as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. Since we absolutely know that Peter Quill touched an Infinity Stone, we can more than assume that Johann Schmidt touched an Infinity Stone as well. It's commonly accepted that the Cube contains the Space Gem.

If Red Skull is in space, where in space is he? My thoughts are, he could either be with Thanos, waiting for his moment to return, or he is somewhere else in the Universe, possibly popping up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 or [Thor: Ragnarok](tag:956858), before appearing in The Avengers: Infinity War

Theory 2: He's Traveling Through Time

Experiencing the effect of The Infinity Stone.

What if the Cube contained the Time Gem rather than the Space Gem? The beam of light that consumes Red Skull could be a worm hole.

If he were to be traveling through time, he could appear a rounded 75 years later. Vanishing in 1943, reappearing in 2018, the year The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is set to be released.

Regardless, we have 3 years to Theorize about The Avengers: Infinity War. For now we must anxiously await the day the Movie Pilot headlines read;

"Hugo Weaving Confirms He Will Reprise His Role As Red Skull For The Avengers: Infinity War."

If you have a theory on where Red Skull could be and how he could return, I would love to hear it, so please comment.
