Marvel made the announcement today that British actor Tom Holland has won the coveted role of Peter Parker in the upcoming, new and improved Spider-Man film. Holland will first appear in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 prior to leading a solo Spider-Man film on July 28, 2017.

This will be the 19-year old's first lead role on the big screen as he's only been see previously in support roles and the television mini-series, Wolf Hall. He beat out actors such as Asa Butterfield, Nat Wolff, and Liam James.

In addition to the announcement of Holland, we also learned that as rather novice director, Jon Watts, will direct the film for Marvel. Watts previously has directed Clown and Cop Car along with several episodes of The Onion News Network.
