The aliens are back. Independence Day 2 looks to be one of the most exciting films of the 2016.....oh wait.Yeah, it's clear that some of you are not happy to see this movie but it's still coming. The first Independence day was a considered a box office hit and a cinematic triumph, the film was also praised for its visual effects and for the iconic scene that featured the destruction of the white house. Independence day 2 looks like it could be a worthy follow-up to the original if it manages to maintain what made the first movie so enjoyable while also adding a new dimension to the story.
Here's the plot synopsis:
Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
You might be getting a Pacific Rim vibe from this synopsis when you read about how the nations of the world are banding together to fight off an enemy from the stars. Even though this sounds cheesy your best option is to just go with it and focus on the characters because the cast is something special.
The negativity directed towards this film has a lot to do with Will Smith not signing on to the project since he is considered to be what made the original movie so memorable. Smith had other films that he was working on at the time but some wonder if there is another reason behind his lack of involvement. He most likely wanted more money which seems likely but not certain. The film could still live up to expectations if fans would simply accept that a Smith-less Independence day film could still be good. The sequel could very well become a box office giant and a successful summer blockbuster since it has a great cast and the original director, this film could be 2016's Mad Max: Fury road. The best thing to do is to give the film a chance because it could just surprise you.
