What is the Green Lantern Corps? Think of them as police who patrol the entire universe, divided into 3,600+ sectors. Each Green Lantern uses a Green Lantern ring, which they can recharge with a Lantern battery. It's all powered by their willpower. While flying is definitely an awesome ability, what makes the Green Lantern ring the greatest weapon in the universe is the fact that they can make a construct based on any object they can imagine.

But if you already know enough about the Emerald Guardians, you've probably had your opinion on a simple question: Hal Jordan or John Stewart? That debate has been going on for a while now.
The Cinematic History
Backtracking a bit, remember that Green Lantern film that came out in 2011, which starred Ryan Reynolds? That movie performed critically and financially poor. This film only saw the origin of Hal Jordan, but no other human Green Lantern.
Three years after the disappointment, Warner Bros. a new slate of films, including a Justice League two-parter and a Green Lantern reboot, set for release in 2020.
Green Lantern (Reboot)
More than half a year after the announcement, we have a new rumor from Collider.
Green Lantern Hal Jordan may be the most popular Lantern, however, according to their sources,
We’re hearing possibly two or all three—Jordan, Stewart, and Gardner—could be the leads of Warner Bros’ Green Lantern reboot.
Furthermore, the franchise will continue to focus on different Green Lanterns and never on just one, so really the Green Lantern movies look like they’ll be more about the Green Lantern Corps, which is an interesting approach.
How great is this rumor? Instead of having to decide between two great characters, we have possibly three!
Here are very basic descriptions of the characters if you aren't very familiar with the DC Universe:
- Hal Jordan: Often called the greatest Green Lantern ever by the guardians, Hal Jordan is definitely very heroic. He's constantly wisecracking and being a test pilot where courage is required has definitely helped him become an amazing Green Lantern. An important thing to note is that his best (superhero) friend is Barry Allen/ The Flash.
- John Stewart: John Stewart joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after an accident involving his sister and later became an architect in Detroit. He's usually serious and very focused on preventing forces from harming others. Some people refer to him to as the "black Green Lantern." He was DC Comics' first African American superhero, but that shouldn't be the reason to use him. His constructs are always solid, since he was an architect. John Stewart gained popularity through the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series.
- Guy Gardner: Guy is the only human Green Lantern with red hair. He's a hothead who was chosen as the backup for Hal Jordan. He's faced many changes, and though he doesn't work well with others, it's hilarious seeing all of his interactions.
More details from Collider tell us how soon we will see the Green Lanterns.
The plan is just to focus on these two or three human Green Lanterns, and there’s a real possibility that Warner Bros. will introduce the Green Lanterns at Comic-Con this year at their panel in Hall H on Saturday. And if WB does bring on multiple Green Lanterns, then presumably one or more of them will pop up in Justice League.
In addition, speculation for the past year has been that Green Lantern would show up at the end of Justice League Part One to alert the Justice League of a huge threat headed towards Earth. I really don't like this thought simply because the Justice League will have been formed and in action for a whole movie without a Green Lantern. Instead, I would want one to join at the beginning of Justice League Part One.
Announcing the new Green Lanterns at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 sounds very exciting! First, they would have to confirm this rumor about including more than one Green Lantern in the DC Cinematic Universe. Secondly, there could be an actor announced for the role of the Green Lantern.
Why This Will Most Likely Be True
Like many other things on the internet, this is still a rumor. Fortunately, it's likely to happen.
Let's go back to the speculation of having the Green Lantern appear at the end of the first Justice League film. The reason I don't see that happening is because Snyder and Warner Bros. seem to be have the same Justice League lineup of that of The New 52 one. Also, Green Lantern has usually been a founding member of the Justice League. It would be crazy for him not to be.
Hal Jordan absolutely needs to be in the DC Cinematic Universe. It's rumored that Zack Snyder prefers him and Ezra Miller will be playing Barry Allen, who (as I stated before) has strong ties with Hal Jordan. Plus, Geoff Johns is the executive producer of Batman v Superman and if he is an executive producer of later movies, ignoring Hal would be out of the question.
John Stewart will be in the DC Cinematic Universe for one simple reason. When the creators of The Flash and Arrow asked to use John Stewart as the Green Lantern, they were forbidden from using him because "they have other plans for him." Like Blue Beetle, Batman, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and more, it seems John Stewart will only appear in the DC Cinematic Universe, or the movies.
As for Guy Gardner, why not add him in?
In a previous post, I wrote that we should have more than one Green Lantern appear on the silver screen, and it seems like it might finally be happening. Updates will come very soon and dreams may be finally coming true.
