It's been almost two decades since we last set our eyes on the train wreck lifestyles of Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud in Trainspotting. If you need a reminder of their drug-fueled escapades, relive their deprived Edinburgh antics in the trailer below:
And just when we thought it might all be finally over, some news on the block has started to ruffle some feathers, indicating that a sequel to the cult feature may be in the cards.
According to sources, during the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland, Ewan McGregor said he would be up for starring in a sequel. Apparently, the actor has worked hard to patch up his differences with Danny Boyle. Beef has been famously brewing ever since the director decided to cast Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead in The Beach, a part originally intended for Ewan.
Yet, putting the past behind him, the Scottish star has now actually described the chance to work with the talented director once more as "extraordinary."
"It’s been a long, long time. I just think I’ve changed my opinion about it. We’ve all moved on and there is a lot of water under the bridge now. [...] I miss working with Danny, I did some of my best work with him and he’s one of my favorite directors I’ve worked with. There was some bad blood and ill feeling, but that’s all gone now. I think it might be extraordinary to see a sequel 20 years after the original.”
What's more, Ewan said that a second installment might be just the thing to take him back to filming in his native Scotland. He said:
“It might be the film that brings me back. I would be up for it, I’ve said that to Danny. Everybody has talked about it and speculated about it."
But before you go jumping out of your seat in excitement, bear in mind that the actor also admitted:
"I don’t know if it’s happening yet. I’ve not seen a script and I don’t know if there is one.“
Oh, please, please, please! Let there be one in the works!
