Now that Marvel's Avengers Age of Ultron is winding down in theaters, the next (and final) film for Marvel's Phase 2 slate is Ant-Man.

If you look real close at one of the most recent TV spots for the film, Paul Rudd's Scott Lang brings up a mention of the Avengers. That means that there may be some mention as to what has already happened in previous films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now that Ant-Man is about to join the MCU, most fans are a bit confused as to where he will fit into the bigger scope. It has been revealed that Ant-Man will be a great importance to the Avengers and Marvel president Kevin Feige has revealed how the events that will occur in Ant-Man will set up the upcoming Phase 3 slate of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Feige said that several people have expected Phase 2 to end with Avengers Age of Ultron (meaning that Phase 1 ended with The Avengers back in 2012). But the truth is that Ant-Man is the conclusion to Phase 2. He also stated that Ant-Man will foreshadow what we will see in Marvel Phase 3.

He stated

Truth is, there is so much in Ant-Man: introducing a new hero, introducing a very important part of technology in the Marvel Universe, the Pym particles. Ant-Man getting on the Avengers' radar in this film and even---this is the weirdest part, you shouldn't really talk about it because it won't be apparent for years---but the whole notion of the quantum realm and the whole notion of going to places that are so out there, they are almost mind-bendingly hard to fathom. It all plays into Phase 3.

So we have seen photos of Paul Rudd dubbing the Ant-Man suit for the past few months and the film is right around the corner. Rudd is currently set to reprise the role of Scott Lang/Ant-Man in the already packed Captain America: Civil War. On the downside though, we don't know how big of a role Ant-Man will be in the rest of the franchise. Also there is no current second solo film for him as of right now on Marvel's slate (maybe in Phase 4 if they go that far).

With regards to the main storyline of Ant-Man, the movie will follow master thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who is enlisted by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to use a special suit which shrinks in size but increases in power. Together they must plan a daring heist that will inevitably save the world from towering threats. One such threat is Corey Stoll as the main antagonist Darren Cross/Yellowjacket.

Ant-Man arrives in theaters on July 17th
