For many years we've seen the alleged "non-profit" organisation that is the Fédération Internationale de Football Association - more often referred to as FIFA - destroy the reputation of what is considered to be the most popular sport on the planet (though some would argue that it's actually Cricket).
Obviously football as a sport hasn't lost its reputation - it's still the beautiful game! But when the biggest name in soccer is found to be connected to such a large degree of corruption, slave labour and general disregard for people's lives, our perception of past and future events is obviously going to be affected. But you may ask yourself - "what does this have to do with FIFA 16 & PES 2016?"
FIFA 16 & the FIFA Scandal
We as consumers may feel rather helpless against an organisation that has literally been branded as "evil". We've seen them force the World Cup upon Brazil in the past and now Qatar - one of the poorest countries in the world - where over a thousand workers have died in order to construct the stadiums for the games, with a further 4,000 lives projected to be lost before 2022. Furthermore in Brazil, where billions of dollars was spent on the construction of new stadiums - which now stand empty and useless - the country has been left in financial disarray after FIFA cleaned-up following the World Cup.
FIFA have been involved in extortion, bribery and genuine slavery. You may have even heard of the story which related an incident where employees were banned from attending the funerals of their own families. What has gone on within the offices of FIFA is monstrous and they've literally blazed a path of devastation in some of the countries they've been involved with. Just check this out - it's really worth it!
Following all of this, we come down to something much smaller - a video game: FIFA 16. For years, FIFA has been the most popular video game franchise on the planet and that is no small accomplishment. Politics and Video Games generally don't mix, in fact I'm sure the two avoid one another at all costs. But after seeing where my money for the purchase of several editions of the FIFA games has gone over the years: I'm done. FIFA 16 will not be something I'll be purchasing as I make the move to PES 2016.
The only thing that I'm regretting following this move, is the arrival of women's football to FIFA 2016. But after hearing the statements made by Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA for 17 years, regarding women's soccer, it kind of sours the whole affair:
They could, for example, have tighter shorts. Female players are pretty, if you excuse me for saying so, and they already have some different rules to men - such as playing with a lighter ball. That decision was taken to create a more female aesthetic, so why not do it in fashion? (...) Let the women play in more feminine clothes like they do in volleyball
Please, excuse me for saying so: Go F&%$ Yourself!
EA pay a lot of money in order to have the FIFA brand name, not only within the game, but plastered onto the front of it. The profits for this franchise are astronomical and just another way in which FIFA officials line the inside of their pockets.
Chuck Blazer for instance, the man who acted as an informant for the FBI on the FIFA case, had an apartment in Trump tower in New York City which was literally reserved for his cats. HIS CATS! Konami may have done some disservices to certain employees of their own in recent months, but FIFA has literally damaged countries and played a big hand in an ever-rising death count.
I know - it's a video game. You just want to have fun with a franchise you've enjoyed for years and that's totally fine! But as a consumer of FIFA products, boycotting FIFA 16 is the only stance that we can make if we truly believe that what we've bared witness to are heinous acts, carried out by a despicable group of individuals. FIFA 16 won't be getting my money, as I make the move to PES 2016 this year. Does it seem extreme? Not in relation to the matter at hand. And if enough people do it - it will make a difference.
Would You Opt for PES 2016 Over FIFA 16 on its Release Date?
But I'm dying to know what you guys think of this! Have you been following the FIFA scandals? Do you have an opinion about the entire situation and will it actually affect your desire to buy FIFA 16 or PES 2016? Please let us know in the comments below - we're dying to know!
A Case For PES 2016 As A Better Football Game
One fact that I actually haven't addressed in this article is whether or not PES is actually a better football game in itself. Obviously, this is entirely subjective. However, PES 2015 did win multiple awards over FIFA 15 last year. It was praised for its realistic approach to the game and 2016 only aims to improve upon that reputation. FIFA has always been labelled as a game that has been more accessible in terms of actually playing it. PES has a very different reputation.
For years, players have stated that PES is the more realistic football game - even those who'd dedicated their time to FIFA. And having now made the move to PES, I really don't lament the change. FIFA has real issues in terms of realistically portraying the game, some of which really frustrate us. Those frustrations aren't in PES - though it does have its own. Neither of these products are perfect, but there is a great case to be made for PES as a technically better game.
Here's a list of PES 2016's new features in case you're wondering what's in store on the game's release date!
- An Enhanced Collision System has been introduced in PES 2016.
- PES 2016 will also have improved Aerial duals where players can have more control over how the go for a header in 50/50 situations.
- PES 2016 will have wide range of “1v1 Control” movements which will depend on the skills of the player. The best feature is the fact that the response time has been improved which means players can pull off feint moves and loads of other skill moves with better control.
- Artificial Intelligence, defending and such has also been upgraded. While new IDs has been included for the goalkeepers where different goalkeepers will react differently in same situations.
- Just like in FIFA, PES 2016 has including control over players goal celebrations - Totti taking a selfie confirmed!
- Dynamic Weather has finally been included in the game.
- With new ball physics, PES 2016 will have better ball control and some unpredictable stuff where FIFA lacks.
