Earlier this week doting parents took their children to the cinema in Ohio to watch the newly released Inside Out Movie. The preschoolers were led to their seats and expected to be shown this...

But when the lights went dim and the first scene started rolling the parents noticed that something was very different. Instead the poor little pre-schoolers were treated to the opening reel of horror sequel Insidious 3, rather than the cute heart warming Disney/Pixar animation film Inside Out.

Just imagine being a small child and having to face this:

Just, terrifying:

The cinema was filled with children hysterically crying and incredibly unhappy parents. It's no wonder they were so upset as the unsuspecting kids were first exposed to the trailer for Sinister 2 , which contained a scene showing children being tied up and murdered.

I can sort of see how this mix-up could have happened; both films start with 'Insid.' The films were also released two weeks apart, but that's where the similarities between these films end.

The duty manager was on hand to apologize to parents and offered free upgrade tickets. One parent wrote on the cinemas facebook:

"The damage is already done. [My} children are terrified and keep asking questions."

The cinema may has apologized profusely but this will not stop the nightmares that the children may now have, these kids will also be terrified to go to the cinema again.

But this is not the first time such a mix up has happened either, it seems a few projectionists have been sleeping on the job.

Other notable mix-ups:

Guardians of the Galaxy cinema goers were treated to Rise of the Guardians:

In Virginia in 2014, fans pilled into the cinema to see the newly released Guardians of the Galaxy but instead were disappointed when this mistake (which happened three times) resulted in them seeing the Dreamworks kids flick Rise of the Guardians. Not sure how they managed this one as Rise of the Guardians was released in 2012.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water and Fifty Shades of Grey mix-up:

Earlier this year in Colorado parents took their children to an early screening of what they thought was The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, instead they were forced to watch the opening to Fifty Shades Of Grey. This mix-up would have raised heaps of questions had it played the whole way through. The cinema quickly stopped the film while embarrassed parents were grabbing their children and to make a swift exit.

Editors note: This article has been amended as it previously stated the scene showing children being tied up and tortured was from Insidious 3, but was in fact from the trailer for Sinister 2.
