As far as game of the year goes - even though these are strong contenders - Bloodborne is still my number one! Yet I'm undecided as to whether the game is actually better than Dark Souls. I've certainly played Bloodborne more and I'm nowhere near ready to give up yet. With the promise of a Bloodborne expansion coming from From Software later this year, Bloodborne fans around the world are ridiculously excited to have some new areas to explore in Yarnham!
But has From Software won you over with its new formula? Has Bloodborne actually impressed you more than the Souls series with its gothic setting and fast-paced combat? Is the Bloodborne expansion DLC actually a more attractive offer than the promise of a 2016 release date for Dark Souls 3?
Bloodborne Expansion DLC vs Dark Souls 3
For me personally - it's actually a bit of an easy decision. I've engaged with Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and all of its expansions, Dark Souls 2 and now [Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin](tag:2768294) on XBOX One and PS4. Bloodborne was a fresh take on the combat system and difficulties that From Software put forward to players with their Souls games. I'm dying for further entries into this universe. And while I can't wait to see what they do with Dark Souls 3, as this current stage in time I'm still obsessed with Bloodborne.
And I'm sure I'm not alone in saying so! There is an endless degree of things to expect from the Bloodborne expansion DLC we've been promised. Take a look at what Dark Souls 2 had added to its midst:
- Crown of the Sunken King, introduced a whole new area that players were teleported to.
- Five different locations were added to explore, all of which are packed with seven new kinds of enemies to encounter.
- There were also three new bosses in the game, however the final one was actually 3 in 1!
Which Release Date Excites You More?
If we can expect these kind of additions to Bloodborne - count me in. It's totally against my nature to get excited for DLC, I really dislike the idea. HOWEVER, Bloodborne is already such a complete experience, that any additions wouldn't have been necessary. It doesn't feel like the developers pulled back from certain ideas - they realised all of them!
Dark Souls 3 will be available in 2016 and we can't wait to see what they've done with the franchise! The Bloodborne expansion is expected to receive its release date later this year. Let us know what you think of the work of From Software in the comments below!
