Slightly Mad Studios released their crowd-funded racing simulator, Project CARS on May 7th for XBOX One, PS4 and PC. The game received some pretty decent reviews out the gate. A lot of people really took a shine to the development team's accomplishments. However, the reputation for the game has somewhat soured over the past few weeks - especially considering the team in charge of Project CARS has just announced a crowd-funded sequel, Project CARS 2.
But why the sudden shift in perspective? Certain gaming publications said that Project CARS was a fantastic alternative to Gran Turismo or the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6 in their initial reviews! But is this racing sim worth your money in comparison to picking up the Xbox One exclusive, Forza Motorsport 6 on its release date?
Project CARS, Project CARS 2 & Forza 6
Project CARS' goal was to become a game made by fans for fans. Everything you've ever wanted in a racing game was to be realised in this package. It was a great idea, as racing fans are very vocal about the changes they desire in the most popular racing sims in the world. While Slightly Mad Studios delivered on a lot of fronts, they're still not done with Project CARS.
If you check out the video below, you'll see some of the issues that fans of the game have been having. In short, this crowd-funded project is rife with bugs and glitches. Slightly Mad Studios need to focus on the appalling issues that players are continuously running into with the game.
Therefore, the announcement of Project CARS 2 seems a little bit premature and seeing as the game has actually sold over a million copies, the fact that the second project is crowd funded too has pissed a lot of people off. Not to mention the fact that the developer has pulled the Wii U version of the game entirely - with the director of the project actually saying "we really dislike Nintendo users".
Without Glitches, is Project CARS a Better Game Than Forza Horizon 6 Before Release Date?
But if we were to remove the glitches from the game - which Slightly Mad Studios will assumedly deal with - what does Forza 6 actually offer racing fans that improves upon the depth of Project CARS?
- For starters, Forza has always had insane customisation options
- The cars in Project CARS are fixed - you can't even change the wheels.
- More tracks are available in Forza 6
- Better graphics across all platforms
- The support of a much larger team for bugs and glitches
- Much more cars are on offer
Forza 5 even saw the team at Top Gear narrate its campaign, which was insanely cool. The guys won't be returning for Forza 6, but if they can bring us something just as impressive for the next instalment, the game will be worth checking out!
Slightly Mad Studios delayed Project CARS for a very long period of time. However, when they finally released it, it was a in a state that still needed work. The longer you engage with the game the more you come to realise the degree of bugs that persist throughout the game. Forza Motorsport 6 will hopefully be even better than Forza Horizon 2 - an already brilliant open world racing game. Therefore, I think Project CARS may be one to miss if you're waiting to decide.
