With Watch Dogs, Ubisoft have no intention of leaving their new IP to be remembered as an average single instalment. Rest assured, there will be more Watch Dogs games in the future, the question is simply 'how many?' Additionally, can we expect the series to get better with age in the same way that Assassin's Creed has? The improvements between the first game and Assassin's Creed 2 are monumental, to the extent where AC2 has been labelled as one of the best games of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation.
At the moment it seems difficult looking at the banal world of Watch Dogs and its infuriating protagonist Aiden Pearce - but not impossible. Watch Dogs 2 could really surprise us all on its release date. But with Assassin's Creed Syndicate arriving later this year and Watch Dogs 2 projected for the future, I'm wondering which franchise gamers are more excited for.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate vs Watch Dogs 2
Obviously Assassin's Creed has grown to be one of the most popular franchises in the industry - especially since it became a yearly series. However, has AC lost its steam? Has the controversy surrounding the broken release of Assassin's Creed Unity affected the reputation of the franchise?
Initially, I was a massive fan of the Assassin's Creed games. However, after so many instalments and Ubisoft completely dropping the initial story arc they were attempting to keep alive - I'm out. I haven't played a full campaign since Assassin's Creed 3 and that's not a particularly great game. Black Flag was a lot of fun, I just lost interest before I could reach its conclusion. On top of that, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is nothing that really interests me, yet there are obviously numerous excited fans!
What Does Watch Dogs 2 Need?
But as it currently stands, which series generates more excitement for you? Watch Dogs 2 certainly has potential, but do you want to see it rise to the esteem of the Assassin's Creed name? There are certain things that Watch Dogs 2 needs to accomplish in order to gain such praise though:
- Get a better protagonist with a far more engaging story.
- Create a more interesting and involving open world.
- Hacking needs to become more complex and empowering.
- Side missions need to more enjoyable.
- The levelling system needs to actually make a difference and make the player want to improve.
This basically sounds like a completely different game. But Watch Dogs gave us the basics of what could become a great idea. Watch Dogs 2 needs to become that great idea if the series has any hope to flourish.
Does Assassin's Creed Syndicate Look Good?
In terms of Assassin's Creed, I don't know if the series will ever engage me again. It could be a lost cause. However, I can see Ubisoft's attempts to transform the franchise now more than ever with, Assassin's Creed Syndicate. There are a lot of changes to the AC formula going on in Syndicate, from riding around in a carriage to the more brawl-focused combat. Perhaps it'll be enough to win back those who've left AC behind.
But where do you stand Assassin's Creed fans? Does Syndicate look like a great instalment to you? Or have you more hope for Watch Dogs 2? Be sure to let us know where you stand in the comments below!
