I picked up Batman: Arkham Knight at midnight on Monday and I have been glued to it! This game is everything I hoped it would be and more. Recently, I have been getting more into the Arkham world and this game just shows how much love and heart other people have for these characters and their universe. I just wanted to express the top 5 things that blow my mind every time I become the Batman!
1. Seriously Detailed Graphics
This game is just gorgeous! I have played the other Arkham games and I thought that Arkham City would be the highest the bar could go in terms of detail in a Batman game. I was so wrong. The lights, the streets, and just the rain on your cape looks way better than the last title, which looked beautiful itself. Just watching Batman's suit moving and flexing when he first puts it on was super impressive.
The city got the biggest upgrade of them all. With detailed highways, new bright lights, and so many thugs swarming the streets, it's hard not to get distracted by looking at the city when you are driving or flying to the next mission.
You can see the big change from Arkham City to Arkham Knight:
2. Side Missions Feel Like Main Missions
This is probably my favorite thing about this game. Every single side mission you work on feels like Rocksteady put as much effort into it as if it was the main story ark. Which is crazy for this size of sandbox game. The game makes it really hard to choose what to do next because of how well the stories are all written. I sat on a building for about two minutes one time just teetering to go after one person or save another. I have been torn so many times. I do admit there are side missions that felt like they were just put in to get you Wayne Tech points, but this does not detract from the game in the slightest.
While we are still talking about selecting missions; another thing they added was a mission selection wheel. This wheel is way more handy than bringing up the map and scrolling over to a blip. With the wheel, gamers can quickly see the completion percentage of a side mission and where the story is at so far on those missions. It also automatically places a waypoint for you to follow.
3. Race Tracks
You knew it was coming. Yes, the Batmobile is one of the biggest things that was talked about before the launch of the game. I really had my doubts about the race tracks and the combat with the car, and I was mostly thinking of it as a gimmick really. I was proven wrong on the first race track that you come to. It felt like a fast paced puzzle racer. I love frantic arcade racers, so this was huge for me. I had to drift, boost, and activate things while trying to beat the clock to get a high score. Sure, I got stressed out in a few sections, but it is rewarding when you slide in past the finish line barely under the amount of time given. You are going so fast at times that you feel almost like this...
The game designers were smart, though. You're able to restart the challenge when you know that you aren't going to make it.
4. Remote Control Batmobile
This might sound like a cop-out since I already talked about the Batmobile, but this is on a completely different spectrum. With this feature alone, I have had so many moments where I felt like a complete BA. When in gaming is it not awesome to feel like a bad-ass? Huh? That's right, no where. I thought the remote control would be limited, like just driving and then shooting in a small area where you were standing. That was not the case. You can control the Batmobile just as if you were driving it! I still have not found a maximum range on how far out I can control it, so I use this feature all of the time. I can even use the turret while in hand-to-hand combat with a crowd of enemies and it will assist me in taking down thugs. It just feels cool.
5.Upgrades, Upgrades, Upgrades!
There are so many upgrades in this game! You can upgrade your suit, combat, gadgets, and even different specs on your Batmobile can be upgraded. There are so many that it is almost daunting to pick which upgrade you want to spend your hard earned Wayne Tech points on first.
The game has plenty of opportunities to get more points, and so far it feels that if I can do as many side missions as possible, going to mission check points. You'll be fully upgraded in no time.
