In general, I love getting dressy for the right occasion. There's nothing wrong with putting on a nice silky dress, a pair of sparkling heels, painting your face, and styling your hair to perfection. Add a pushup bra, some dangly earrings, a spritz of perfume, and Voilà! You're a real life Disney Princess.

While this outfit might be appropriate for a fancy dinner or a ball, this getup would completely hinder me if I were to play tennis, want to snuggle with my boyfriend in bed, or even, I don't know, save the world.

Which is why I can't help but squint my eyes and tilt my head in confusion when I see the outfits the female superheroes have to wear. Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with showing off your "girls" or wearing some heels, but that stuff is just so unnecessary and impractical.

All I can think about is how I'd have to continually pull up the top because it's strapless and that the bottoms are guaranteeing continual wedgies. Also, as gorgeous as her voluminous hair looks, it's just going to get in the way.

This is why I have to applaud artist Lord Ingvard, who has redesigned the outfits of some of our favorite female figures from the DC and Marvel universes. She had this to say:

"I love comics and superheroes as much as the next nerd, but the women’s costumes—sweet mother of Moses!—the COSTUMES. At the very least, highly impractical. And at worst, incredibly sexist. I mean, EXTREMELY so. Honestly, I don’t know why women haven’t been a lot more angry and vocal about this kind of thing over the years. Like “Ferguson riot” angry. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that expressing one’s sexuality is a natural, healthy thing, and certainly not something to be censured or shamed, but holly hammer of Thor, there’s a time and a place for everything!"

THANK YOU! She more or less stole the words straight out of my mouth. Just wait until you see the designs she has created for Wonder Woman, Elektra, Super Girl, Black Canary, Vampirella, Ms. Marvel, Red Sonja, Zatanna, and Power Girl.

1. Black Canary

Before:

After:

Forget the long blonde locks and the fishnets. This ensemble looks much more comfortable.

2. Elektra

Before:

After:

Sometimes a girl might eat more chips and cookies than she meant to (story of my life), and therefore a tummy exposing top isn't exactly optimal. I also feel that the red scarf-looking bits to the costume would get caught on anything and everything in the middle of combat.

3. Ms. Marvel

Before:

After:

Her old outfit looked like a stripper's. This one hints at it, but is so much more badass. Which is all the more sexy.

4. Power Girl

Before:

After:

Super Girl may be known for her large breasts, but with such intense cleavage and no support, she would have been more concerned with flashing than fighting. This outfit feels much more secure for a chick with curves.

5. Red Sonja

Before:

After:

You might be able to rock a bikini at the Las Vegas pool parties, but even a chain-link one will do nothing to protect you in battle. Which makes me wonder why the hell Red Sonja's original outfit is so revealing with absolutely no armor. This outfit is quite the improvement.

6. Supergirl

Before:

After:

Forget the "little school girl" skirt. This costume is much more dynamic. If i wore a skirt, I'd be more concerned with the up keep of shaving my legs, and ain't nobody got time for that when you're saving the world.

7. Vampirella

Before:

After:

I bet after so many years, Vampirella forgot what it felt like to wear real clothing, not that ribbon outfit we referred to as a bikini. wearing some real pants. Do you see that smile? She finally looks happy.

8. Wonder Woman

Before:

After:

No heels. No strapless. No flowy hair. Let's get all the looks out of the way and focus on the task at hand: kicking massive ass.

9. Zatanna

Before:

After:

Now this is what a REAL magician looks like. Is it just me, or does this look have a bit of a "Tonks-ish" vibe? I am also loving the striped pants and boots.

I believe our favorite female superheroes can still look attractive without an extensive amount of cleavage, leg, and perfect flowing hair. It's just too hard to maintain when a woman has more important things on her mind: like killing bad guys and saving the world.

And it might just be me, but these ladies still look sexy as hell with their revamped outfits. I think also because we get to really know their personalities more without the focus being only on their body parts.
