It's a word that destroys lives, tears families apart, and steals souls. The effects of this disease creates detachment from the body and causes psychological effects that last a lifetime. Cancer. The horror of this life altering condition is interpreted and carried out in different ways, but it still holds the same damaging promise of an unwanted shift in the lives of its' victims. Some handle the news in a more private way, but for these celebrities, cancer was another battle they conquered and decided to raise awareness for.

You know that crazy lady from Misery that kidnapped that author? Or what about Rose's supercool family friend in Titanic? Well her name's Kathy Bates and she is one tough woman. In 2003, she privately battled with ovarian cancer and is now in remission.

If you're a 50 year old woman trapped in a younger person's body like me, you'd know that Fran Drescher played the fabulously spunky and stylish housekeeper on the popular 90s show, The Nanny. But what I didn't know was that this fabulous woman dealt with a difficult battle with uterine cancer in June of 2000. After undergoing a hysterectomy, she founded the Fran Drescher Cancer Schmancer Foundation and raises awareness for not only a cure for cancer but how to prevent it from occurring.

They have all battled through cancer, and even though it may seem like they've lost that battle, their spirit lives on in our hearts and in each of their legacies.

Another strong inspiration is 2-year old Ellie Walton. This beautiful girl is going through brain cancer and hydrocephalus, which is a condition where fluid goes into the brain, causing inflammation and potential brain damage. Her family is always on her side and helps Ellie remain strong during the rough and joyous times.

Finally, this inspiring young girl shows us that beauty comes from strength. Cookie has been battling with cancer for over a year and is still fighting strong. She is a life-loving, graceful young lady that chooses to appreciate what God has given her and "crumble" her condition instead of thinking about what she has to go through. Truly an inspiration we all should take note of.

Cancer is a scary condition that can take hold of anyone's life. These inspiring people have shown to the world that the fight is just another part of the process of healing and gaining strength. It shows that life is a fragile thing and it shouldn't be taken for granted. Despite our troubles, mistakes, and flaws, we should embrace God for all of the wonderful things He's given us in this life. These ladies show us that life itself is a battle and everything else that comes with it is only temporary.

And now, a very beautiful quote from the late and great Robin Williams, who showed us all that life becomes lighter when handled with laughter.
