I'm sure the lot of you have also figured that 2016 is going to be a big year for movies. Theres [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870), [Assassin's Creed](tag:437814), and so.. so much more. Not only is there a good chunk of superhero movies coming out in 2016, but there are other big names making their debut, or return, to the big screen next year. I really wanted to share my excitement with you guys. If it's not distributed amongst other people, the excitement will remain trapped inside of me until I explode. Do you want me to explode? I hope not. Either way, I'm going to share with you guys Why 2016 Is Going To Be HUGE For Movies.
Why is next year going to be huge for film? Haven't you heard what's coming out next year? 2016 is going to rock our socks, make us curl our toes, and crap our pants. Let's take a look at a few of the big titles coming to us next year, that'll make 2016 a great year to be a movie goer.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Zack Snyder has worked eagerly to bring us what we all have been waiting for; The World's Finest on the same screen. This movie has already drawn in not only fans of DC, but people who are barely familiar with Batman or Superman. The trailer that was released got a lot of folks including myself, even more excited about the movie I was already pumped for. Based loosely off of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight, the movie takes place after the events that occurred in Man of Steel. Batman is a seasoned crime fighter, with over a decade of experience under his utility belt. The nation is torn while there are people who believe Superman is a savior, while there are others who believe he is a danger to everyone around him. One person that would fall into that second category, would be Batman.
He see's the potential evil in everyone; including an alien that nearly destroyed Metropolis (and a Wayne Enterprises satellite). This is going to be the one of the biggest encounters to have ever happened on the big screen. I have faith that DC will live up to the hype, and blow us away with their expanded Universe. Looking at their competition, I don't think they have any room for mediocrity. Batman v Superman will hit theaters March 25, 2016.
Captain America: Civil War
I think the majority of Marvel fans out there could agree with me, when I say that Captain America: The First Avenger and [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](tag:254973) are the best Marvel movies to date. Civil War has some big shoes to fill, but there is no doubt that they'll fit them nicely. The Russo brothers are directing the yet to be seen masterpiece, and according to the majority, they have yet to disappoint. A storyline fans have been dying to see come to life, is less than a year away from us. It's been confirmed that Spider-Man will be making an appearance, which makes things even better. Unfortunately, we won't be seeing favorites like Luke Cage, Daredevil, or The Punisher in Civil War.
[The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](tag:293035) kind of gave us a taste of what's to come when tempers flare over the Superhero Registration Act. From the Avengers arguing over what is right, to them physically attacking each other! If that alone got you excited, just wait until we see our heroes in a full blown war. I'm getting goosebumps just writing about it. Captain America: Civil War comes to theaters May 6th, 2016.
Michael Fassbender will be taking the role of the infamous Desmond Miles, who is captured by a corporation named "Abstergo Industries" that forces Miles into "The Animus" a machine that allows him to access the memories of his ancestors, to retrieve powerful and sacred artifacts. I'm not a huge fan of Assassin's Creed, simply because I've never been that big on the games. But you make a live action movie based off of a popular video game, and you will gain the attention that you were looking for. A movie like this, can either satisfy, or disappoint. No in between. With a pristine actor like Fassbender, you can't really go wrong... or can you? Guess we'll have to wait and see until it hits theaters December 21st, 2016.
That's right. Sly Cooper The Thevious Raccoon is breaking his way into theaters next year, along with his beloved crew. I had so much fun playing Sly Cooper on the Playstation 2. Still one of my favorites. It was about stealth and timing, and I absolutely love games like that. But now we get to see Sly, Bentley, and Murphy on the big scree. Dude. This is great. Will it open up a door for more games to come? I sure hope so. I only know that it'll bring in new and old fans alike! Check out the trailer here:
Ryan Reynolds has always been the top candidate for the role of The Merc with a Mouth. Reynolds starting acting at the same time Deadpool made his first appearance in the comics, they both have extremely humorous personalities, and they're both Canadian. They're so much alike, it's eerie. Because of the uncanny similarities, it would have been a crime to not cast Ryan Reynolds as our favorite anti-hero. This highly anticipated film will focus on the background of Wade Wilson, and will also feature a friend of Deadpool's..
No, not that one. Even though we're all still hoping for it. I'm talking about this guy.
This movie comes with a pretty impressive cast. Part of that cast will be playing iconic characters that a lot of you will recognize from the comic books. Weasel will be played by T.J. Miller, Copycat played by the beautiful Morena Baccarin, Angel Dust played by Gina Carano, Negasonic Teenage Warhead played by Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein as Ajax, and Andre Tricoteux as Colossus. Oh, and of course, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Duh. Deadpool hits theaters February 12th, 2016.
You're never too old for an animated film. Especially one that's a sequel to a movie you saw when you were a child. I think I was in 4th grade when the crowd-pleasing Finding Nemo made it's way into theaters. Crazy how time flies, huh. Now here we are, over a decade later, and it's sequel is finally here. Well not yet, but you know.. it's close. Kinda. Finding Dory takes place six months after the events of [Finding Nemo (2003)](tag:757412), and it will be focused on Dory and the idea of her being reunited with her family. It's been confirmed that we'll be seeing Nemo in the movie, along with Marlin, and the Tank Gang. Finding Dory swims into theaters June 17, 2016.
At first, I thought this movie was going to be the end of the mutant franchise. But after discovering that a Gambit film was to be released after [X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267), I was then able to pick up the pieces of my broken heart. From the pictures that have surfaced over the past few weeks, we can all tell that the movie will be taking place in the 80's. From what I know, the plot is unknown. BUT, we can fiddle around with what we do know about Apocalypse.
He encourages civilizations to engage in war, which he thinks encourages growth, judgement, and destruction. He strongly believes in the "survival of the fittest" and that the weak should be culled from the strong. For Apocalypse, this means the strongest mutants taking their rightful place above humans and the weaker mutants, ruling over the entirety of the Earth. One thing for sure about the movie, is that we will be seeing Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. It'd be sweet to see Wolverine as one, wouldn't it?
The film will feature a good handful of mutants including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Magneto, Quicksilver, Havok, Psylocke, Jubilee, Storm, and Beast. Moira MacTaggert will also be making a return for the Apocalypse. See what I did there? X-Men: Apocalypse will be in theaters May 27th, 2016.
DAAHHHHH I'm so ready for this. Honestly, I've only played World of Warcraft maybe three times in my life, for a combined twenty-four minutes. Maybe more. But you don't need to be a WoW player to be pumped for this. Watching the cinematics for all of the games, alone, has got me excited to watch it all come to life on the big screen. The story telling is just spectacular. The movie is obviously drawn from the more than popular fantasy game World of Warcraft. The movie will focus on the epic battle between humans, dwarfs, trolls, and orcs who are separated into two groups set out to defeat each other; the Horde, and the Alliance. Here's an official photo of one of the orc's from the movie.
Warcraft charges into theaters June 10th, 2016.
The Sorcerer Supreme is getting his big screen debut next year, allowing him to become apart of the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. The introduction of Doctor Strange will definitely open up the door to the supernatural side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which I for one, can not wait for them to explore. This could give us more than what we expect.
Dr. Stephen Strange's career as a brilliant but arrogant surgeon is destroyed, yet he finds a new lease on life after being taken under the wing of a sorcerer, who teaches him how to defend the world against evil. Dr. Strange will be played by fan-favorite Benedict Cumberbatch, Baron Mordo (I was hoping he would be in the film!) will be played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, and The Ancient One is to be played by (Rumored) Tilda Swinton. All great choices, I think. Don't you? Doctor Strange appears in theaters November 4th, 2016.
I don't care how much crap I get for this. It's pretty cool that they're making a live-action Tarzan. Just by looking at the cast, I can already tell that this movie is going to be far from average. Instead, I believe it's going to be perfectly reminiscent of one of my favorite childhood films. Alexander Skarsgard will be playing Tarzan, Margot Robbie will be playing Jane Porter, and other sensational actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz (who is obviously the bad guy) Djimon Hounsou, and John Hurt will be joining the cast.
The movie takes place years after Tarzan has left Africa behind, when he finally returns to the Congo to work as a trade emissary, unaware that he is a pawn in a Belgian captain's deadly plot. Can you guess who plays the evil Belgian captain? The guy who plays a phenomenal antagonist? No one? You'll figure it out... alright, it's Waltz. But i'm sure you already knew that. Tarzan swings into theaters July 1st, 2016.
I was surprised when I first heard the announcement of a movie that would be dominated by villains. Of course, it immediately sparked my interest. It's like the Avengers, except these are bad guys, who kill people. So it's the opposite of The Avengers, really. Anyways, David Ayer has been working his fingers to the bone to bring us anything that's not a disappointment. The star studded cast has left some people nervous, saying you can't have too many stars on the same screen. But I have faith. Like i've said before, DC doesn't have any room for mediocrity. None whatsoever.
We'll be seeing familiar faces, like the ones of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Enchantress, Killer Croc, Slipknot, Hugo Strange (notice how no one really ever calls him Dr. Strange? I wonder why..) Amanda Waller, The Joker, and THE BATM.. *ahem* The Batman. This movie could either pass with flying colors, or fail miserably. I have faith that it'll exceed my expectations, and will leave us with something good to talk about, while walking out of the theaters.
There are so many things to look forward to regarding this movie. The supposed altercation between The Bat and Amanda Waller, the revival of The Joker, Harley and Mr. J's relationship, and the typical dysfunctionality that plagues every team of super villains. I'm ready for this. So ready. Suicide Squad shoots into theaters August 5th, 2016.
First, I have a confession to make. I have not seen any of the movies in the Ghostbusters franchise. Not all the way through at least. But that's going to change, believe me. My plan is to watch as many classic movies as I can, of all genres this summer. Anywho, despite not seeing any of the movies, I do understand how big this is. The revival of a classic that was created twenty-something years ago? Yeah, I'd say that's a pretty big deal.
The difference between [Ghostbusters (2016)](tag:32733) and the ones that came before it, is the female cast; which I think is going to be great. Mainly because Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig are apart of it. The two actresses have made us laugh, until we unintentionally toot. Maybe even more than toot for some of you, I don't know. The all female team will consist of the aforementioned dynamic duo, as well as Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon. Ghostbusters 3 pops into theaters July 22nd, 2016.
Gambit has won the hearts of fangirls and fanboys everywhere. Of course in different ways, but i'm sure there's a few things that have captured us both. Like his rebellious attitude, his awesome suit, and in my opinion, his overlooked abilities. Channing Tatum is set to take up the role of the smooth talkin', card playin', butt kickin' mutant late next year. Surprisingly, I had no problem with him playing one of my favorite mutants. Just like Gambit, he has a southern origin, and doesn't have a problem with approaching the ladies. I'm excited to dive into his origins, and to see the new take on one of my favorite X-Men.
The best part about this movie, is that it proves the X-Men franchise isn't anywhere near finished. That's what makes this movie big. Not only are we seeing the revival of a fan favorite, but we'll possibly be getting a look at what's to come. Gambit lands in theaters October 7th, 2015.
Alright guys and gals, that concludes Why 2016 Will Be HUGE For Movies.
