In August, the rebooted Fantastic Four movie is set to see one of the greatest villians of all time hit the big screen again. With his advanced intellect, mystical powers, his prowess as a sorcerer, and his many great inventions, Dr. Doom stands as one of the most dangerous villians the Fantastic Four have ever faced, perhaps even on of the most dangerous villians in the Marvel Universe. Normally, in order to deafeat this mad man, it takes an entire team (such as all 4 members of FF). What is it though that makes this man so dangerous? Let's dive in!
Dr. Doom - Ruler of Latveria
Dr. Doom was born into a gypsy family, and throughout his childhood learned the ways of mysticism. His prowess as a sorcerer were challanged by the powerful demon Mephisto as Dr. Doom attempted to fear his mother's soul from the demon's clutches. During this important time in Doom's life his superior intellect and scientific genuis came into play. Doom was constantly inventing new things in an attempt to single-handidly take down the Latverian monarchy. Doom was invited to New York for his work and at this time had his first run in with Reed Richards (also known as Mr. Fantastic), however, his time in New York was cut short by an explosion that left Doom with scars covering his face. He then went into a self imposed exile and found an old sorcerer who was one of the Immortal Nine, Doom tricked this powerful being into directing him to a long lost order of monks. Doom enslaved these monks and forced them to forge him his first set of armor. Doom also had them forge his mask onto his face ensuring that no one would ever see his scars.
After his long exile, Doom returned to Latveria and distroyed the King and enslaved his son, taking control of the entire country. By enstilling a puppet government Doom ensured that no one knew his true envolvement or the real state of the seemingly Utopian society. Still trying to become the most powerful man in the world Doom was constantly opposed by the Fantastic Four who always had difficulty in deafeating the powerful man. In order to defeat Doom, the Fantastic Four always needed to aide one another or catch Doom unawares. Dr. Doom has taken on the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Namor, the Red Skull, and countless others singlehandly, winning sometimes and being defeated only by large groups and trickery. My question though is if it is possible for any one hero to defeat Dr. Doom? To answer that question I have selected 4 heros from across the known universes who might stand a chance in a one-on-one fight against the malicious tyrant.
Dr. Strange (who has a movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch coming out in November 2016) is a powerful sorcerer in his own right. Dr. Strange however is also a highly skilled martial artist, athelete, and skilled surgeon. He is often regarded as one of the most powerful sorcerers in the world, his skills rivivaling the likes of Dr. Doom. Some of his more impressive magical abilities include makeinghimself invulnerable, resurrect the dead, fly, stopping and reversing time, and energy blasts. His powers stem from three major pools of energy: the invocation of powerful mystic entities or objects, the manipulation of the universe's ambient magical energy, and his own psychic resources. Dr. Strange also has the ability to travel through dimensons, a skill Dr. Doom lacks. However, one of Dr. Strange's weaknesses is fighting against strictly science-based enemies. This means that Dr. Doom might have a slight advantage over the Sorcerer Supreme, as Doom has the ability to utilize scientific weapons and his own inventions. However, this is just a slight advantage as Doom does enjoy using his mystic abilities. Either way it would prove to be an interesting battle with out a clear outcome, I believe though that Dr. Strange could defeat Dr. Doom single handed if he needed to.
Jean Grey as the Pheonix
Jean Grey is a powerful mutant with telepathic abilities. However, one of her forms is often regarded as one of the strongest characters in the Marvel universe: The Pheonix. A poorly done iteration of the pheonix was seen in X-men Last Stand and a younger version of Jean Grey is set to appear in X-Men Apocolypse. When transformed into the Pheonix, Jean Grey has the ability to rearrange or disintegrate matter at a subatomic level, fly unaided through space, survive in any atmosphere, and manipulate electromagnetic and cosmic energies for various effects and atmospheric disturbances, as well as create stargates she can use to teleport. Also well in this form Jean Grey can use the Pheonix Force avatar, which is a cosmic body of flames that engulfs her. Another upside to being the pheonix is that it allows Jean Grey to ressurect making her virtually undeafeatable. Given this iteration of Jean Grey, Dr. Doom would be hard pressed to find away to defeat this powerful mutant.
Hailing from the DC Universe is our next contender. The Martian Manhunter is well a Martian. It is unclear yet whether or not we'll see a version of the Martian Manhunter on screen anytime soon, but as a long time member of the Justice Leaque I wouldn't be surprise if he shows up at some point. His martian powers include super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, flight, shape-shifting, intangibility and telepathy. These abilities give him a good shot at being able to take down the ruler of Latveria. Being a DC Comics character however, we've never actually seen these two face off before so the outcome is unpredictable. However, the manhunter's natural abilities might give him a slight advantage that might even be enough to defeat Dr. Doom.
Now who else could possibly stand any sort of chance against Dr. Doom? Our next challanger stands perhaps the greatest chance out of any of these four powerful heros, and yet this hero is actually an anti-hero.
Deadpool. Need I say more? This Merc with the Mouth has killed the ENTIRE Marvel Universe, besting the likes of Wolverine, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-men, and countless others. Deadpool is a trained assain with various mutant abilities and is one of the few characters in comic books that realize they are in a comic book. Deadpool constantly breaks the fourth wall both in the comics and in his video game. Coming out in 2016 we are about to see Deadpool come to the big screen. Played by fan favorite Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool looks set to be one of the best super hero movies of our generation. Unfortunately, we've seen Deadpool before in Wolverine Origins but thankfully, Reynolds is set to don the crazed persona once again for his own R rated movie. There is no doubt in my mind that Deadpool would be able to defeat Dr. Doom in a one on one combat situation something that the Fantastic Four never managed to do.
These four challangers are perhaps the only four people in the entirety of all universe we know of that could defeat Dr. Doom single handed. Dr. Doom is easily one of the strongest villians ever created, which ussually means it takes multiple heros teaming up just to stand a chance against him.
