Welcome to Hell's Kitchen people, and get ready for one hell of a ride.
So Daredevil stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, Vincent d'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin and those are the only ones I'm gonna mention. In a city where crime is overlooked, this guy is here to make things right, and so is the show.
In recent years, superheroes have been abundant either being movies or TV shows : Iron Man, Thor, Flash, Superman, Batman.... and so on. But all of them missed something, I can't manage to explain this "something", but they all lacked it. And that something, Daredevil manages to bring it. Twelve years after the movie comes this show and boy it's awesome. I was a little skeptical about his suit at first : A giant headband that covers his whole head, a black shirt, black pants and leather boots.
But once he gets kicking all kinds of asses, it will start to grow on you. I was halfway through the first episode when it dawned on me : it's the Man with no Fear suit !
If you're looking for something like what Arrow could've been without the melodrama, this show is for you. If you're simply looking for a good action show, this is also for you. Or if you're just looking for a simple yet effective story, this is for you too.
Wilson Fisk vs Daredevil
This is one of the most interesting and compelling fights I've seen. Both want the same thing (getting Hell's Kitchen rid of criminals), but they don't have the same approach to do so. Matt brings them down using the law (although sometimes, he breaks bones to get answers) and Wilson simply destroys those who stand against him and buys the others, becoming the very same thing he wants to eliminate in the process. The good thing, is that we can understand each of their points of view. In superhero stories, things are usually black and white, few are the times when they're grey.
For short : Daredevil is seen as a criminal but he's a hero and Wilson is seen a saviour but he's a criminal. That's what usually happens when the villain doesn't wear a mask, he always uses the excuse that he doesn't have anything to hide. Eventually Nelson & Murdock (the law firm of Matt and his friend Foggy) find some evidence to send Fisk to jail.
I also want to say, congrats to Charlie Cox for pulling off a believable blind performance, I've tried it myself (never looking at one particular spot, believing you stare into nothingness) and it's incredibly hard. So congrats to him. As for Vincent d'Onofrio, I have no words. His performance of Fisk is right on the verge of being completely ridiculous and laughable, but also on the edge of being brilliant, and it's on the latter of course.
I'm happy to say, this is one of the most realistic superhero shows I've yet seen. The way they explain how he sees is just brilliant : his eyes got covered in some sort of chemical so he lost sight, but at the same time, he gained so much too. He lost one sense, but all the others were upgraded, so to speak.
He can now hear heartbeats to know whether a person is lying, his touch is so good, that just by touching someone he can tell whether he has a broken bone or not. I know, it's not really realistic, but it's more than most superheroes out there.
Probably the best thing of this show. The choreography, the stunts, they're all just mesmerizing. I'm not gonna write a lot on this, because there isn't a lot to say. Just watch this vid and that will suffice
This season has been simply amazing. I'm not gonna rate it with numbers, because I don't feel like I have the power to do so, and quite frankly because I never do it.
Where to next ?
As we saw at the end of the season, Matt finally gets his red suit, and I love how they brought it into play. It's not just a simple tissue, it's a flexible armor, so expect more action in that suit. And we also know that The Punisher, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, is coming next season, although what I would love more than that, is to see what I call The Red Trio : Spidey, Deadpool and Daredevil.
Other than that, I would also love to see more of this mysterious fellow. He appears at the end of episode 7, we never actually see him, we just see his back. I don't have any knowledge of Daredevil, so I don't know who is, maybe fans will know.
