If you know anything about Star Wars, you know that it's a universe filled with lightsaber-wielding believers of the Force. While some are good, others are evil – all are insanely powerful.,

However, some are more so than others and I think it's safe to say that Darth Sidious is among the most powerful individuals in all of Star Wars existence. Having said that though, there are (in my opinion) four different Jedi that would be able to not only hold their own against this baddie, but also take his sorry butt down.

Now, I'm not going to be discussing any Jedi from the Star Wars books or anything – only those from the six existing movies. However, I might bring in a little information from the books, but only if it's about a character from the films. Let's begin.

Darth Sidious a.k.a. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine

Darth Sidious is obviously the most powerful Sith there is, the strongest in all of existence. He has bonded himself with the Dark Side so deeply that he claims he is in fact the Dark Side itself. It is this bond that makes him near unstoppable.

He is also one of the most ferocious duellers with a lightsaber, having killed several of some of the most skilled Jedi there are with only a few strokes Additionally, he is extremely cunning in his fighting technique, usually holding back, not using his full strength and matching his enemy's fighting level, all until his opponent starts feeling comfortable with the situation and then he strikes.

This combination of brute strength, speed and cunning is what makes him extremely deadly with a lightsaber alone, but we haven't even begun to discuss his abilities using the Force.

Here's an example: Imagine the fight scene between Yoda and Count Dooku on Geonosis after Dooku defeated Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Now imagine that fight scene, but Goku fighting in it instead before taking the extreme devastation of that duel and multiplying it by ten billion. Now take all of what I just said and picture it only being like a preschooler throwing a tantrum — but you haven't seen what will happen once the preschooler grows up. Finally, we see this preschooler blossoming into a man — a huge man who spent his entire upbringing in the gym working out intensifying his strength.

Ultimately, can you get an idea of the sheer madness of power we're discussing here Well, that crazy, insane, unimaginable strength actually isn't Darth Sidious. Instead, it would be the fly or mosquito that he'd swat off his hand before going back to sipping his tea.

This guy is crazy powerful. He can use any known Force ability to its finest affect, and he even uses several unknown abilities. On top of that, he can also create different abilities when they seem fit by making any Force do practically whatever he wants to.

Darth Sidious's Extreme Powers

We all know about his signature move, the Force-lightning. However, I doubt you knew he could incinerate an entire human with it. Well, maybe you did, but did you know this? He can increase the energy output of the lightning so high that it reaches a level of global destruction. Additionally, he can also create something called a Force-Storm by using the power of his own darkness to create a wormhole that rips straight through time and space, destroying entire worlds, ripping through dozens of solar systems like paper. and leaving nothing living in its wake. Behold the power of the Force-Storm!

So, the point I'm trying to make is this: Darth Sidious is boss. He's extremely OPd, but he can't really use his most powerful abilities very easily without killing himself too, which makes it hard to use them in close-quarters combat.

Despite all of the above though, I'm now going to list the four Jedi likely to succeed in beating Sidious – from least to most:

4. Jedi Master Yoda

Now, you might be thinking something like, "Micah — why in the world would you put Yoda in this list? He can't beat Darth Sidious! We saw Sidious kick his little, green, wrinkly butt in Star Wars III. He doesn't deserve to be on this list!" And guess what, you'd be right.

Yet, you would be wrong to say that he doesn't deserve to be on this list at all because I believe he still might have a chance at defeating the Sith Lord. Yoda approached Sidious in hopes of defeating him and bringing him to justice. However, the Jedi was taken off guard by the sheer power and brutality of the Sith.

I think Yoda maybe started off with a sort of arrogance. You can see the swaggerish look on his face when he first enters the room. He then uses to Force to easily take out the two guards in the room with even more of his Yoda-swag and it is this arrogance that led to his downfall against the Sith Lord.

Yoda is taken by surprise by Sidious's incredible skill, who was able to cloud all of the Jedi's vision to mask his presence as well as his power. Ultimately, Yoda had no idea how strong he was of a Sith in his challenge. And if you think about it, the two most recent Siths in existence to have shown themselves to the Jedi (Darth Maul and Darth Tyrannus/ Count Dooku) both died, meaning that Yoda probably thought this other Sith would be no different and would not provide much of a threat to him. Yoda, however, was wrong.

My conclusion: Yoda might be able to defeat Darth Sidious in a one-on-one match if he knew exactly what he was getting himself into before-hand.

Now, the reason that Yoda is at the lowest end of this list is because he was obviously sent running the one time he fought Sidious. As a result, it's just sort of a far-fetched theory of mine that he could've maybe beat Sidious had he not been caught off guard. Although I still think it's likely he could win, I have no real evidence to support the idea.

3. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn

First Yoda and now this guy?

Yep, I believe Qui-Gon is more than qualified to be on this list because not only is he a master of the fourth lightsaber form of combat Ataru, but he is also deeply intertwined with what he calls the Living Force. This means he used the Force to focus very intensely on only the matter at hand, and not on the rest of the galaxy as most Jedi do. As a consequence, this allows him to be wiser than anyone about whatever he puts his mind to.

In fact, it has been said that that very specific skill, only known to be owned by Qui-Gon, would have been able to prevent Darth Sidious from rising to power. So that alone kind of means he could beat him.

Qui-Gon is also the most powerful Jedi when it comes to Force abilities. He can use a skill called "Serenity" to meditate and give him extra strength, courage, and stamina — something that would be helpful against Sidious. Additionally, he also is a master of telekinesis (the ability to move objects with one's mind) and is even ranked as powerful as Yoda when it comes to this. He is also the one who rediscovered the Jedi's ability to return to the land of the living as a spirit and was the one who discovered the Chosen One. Even Yoda himself said that Anakin wasn't in the prophesy and Qui-Gon stood by his belief and turned out to be right, proving that his mastery of the Force is unparalleled.

My conclusion: Between his Living Force know-how, his rediscovery of the Jedi ghost powers and his deep wisdom in finding the Chosen One, no one can compete with him. In a battle of Force powers and not with a lightsaber, I think Qui-Gon would stand a pretty good chance! He's so tuned in with the Living Force that he could definitely put up a pretty good fight.

2. Jedi Master Mace Windu

Samuel L. freaking Jackson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Samuel L. freaking Jackson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mace Windu is most likely the single most powerful Jedi of all. Others may be slightly wiser than he is or maybe more Force-savvy, but overall I'd say he comes out on top. He was even the Master of the Jedi Order until he passed down his position to Yoda – and even this was a voluntary decision. This very fact alone signals that Windu was probably more powerful.

After all, this guy even created his own style of lightsaber combat, a modern form of the style Juyo which he renamed "Vaapad." This form of combat allows you to channel your inner darkness into your duel and it's about as close to being a Sith as you can get without actually being one. In fact, Mace Windu is the only Jedi to practice this art without falling to the dark side and considering this style of fighting is extremely powerful, it shows just how tough he is.

Finally, if you've watched Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, then you know already that Windu can beat Sidious and would have killed him if Anakin/Darth Vader hadn't intervened. Watch the clip below:

My conclusion: In a one-on-one duel, Mace Windu would probably trump Darth Sidious.

1. Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker/Sith Lord Darth Vader, The Chosen One

This was the obvious choice for me as you know, he kind of did it already.

In Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader decides against being a Sith and betrays Darth Sidious, throwing him into the big, huge, arc-reactor-like thing on the Death Star. Following this, the large piece of machinery erupted with a burst of energy, killing the Sith Lord.

I think it's safe to say that Anakin/Darth Vader is able to beat Darth Sidious seeing as how he killed him on first try, with minimal effort. But, in Sidious's defense, he was caught extremely off guard. He thought he had the upper hand when all of a sudden his closest ally picks him up and throws him. So, let's imagine what would happen had neither one of them been taken by surprise and the two of them just duked it out.

For starters, Anakin is the Chosen One and for those of you who don't have any idea what that means, it's that he's the Jedi whose connection to the Force is far superior than anyone who's ever lived or will live. The Chosen One was prophesied to destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force, so when Anakin was discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn to be the prophesied savior, he eventually fulfilled the prophesy by killing Sidious.

Now, it is my belief that Anakin/Darth Vader can beat Sidious in any situation without having to even try! Since it's prophesied and it's fated to happen, there's no way Sidious could escape his destiny to be destroyed. I mean, all he did was literally pick him up like a baby and throw him down a hole — seriously, Sidious couldn't stop that?

Do you honestly think that he would just let someone grab him like that? No, he wouldn't. So, my theory is that if it were anyone else, they'd be obliterated had they tried this, but since Anakin's the Chosen One and has fate on his side, there's absolutely nothing Sidious could've done.

My conclusion: Anakin Skywalker beats Darth Sidious – it's as simple as that! I don't care if he even throws a Cheeto at him, The Chosen One always wins!

So, there's that then! I hope you enjoyed the read. I know, it was a little long, but I hope you had fun anyway. If you absolutely agree with me, absolutely disagree, or maybe only disagree with a few things about this article, please let me know, I'd love to hear what you have to say. :)
