Shout out to Sayak Saha Roy for his piece on Rocksteady and Spider-Man. That article was made really well and I hope mine is as good. This is about a Captain America game, but I think we need more superhero games in general. We however, have Disney Infinity 2.0 with Marvel expansions (I know it's impossible, but DC expansions to that game would be epic), Lego Marvel Superheroes, and Lego Marvel's Avengers coming soon so I'm not in a rush rush, but a Marvel fighting game and Ultimate Alliance 3 are long overdue in some eyes.

We all remember this game. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. As most put it, it's a cheap knock off of the Batman Arkham games. Same basic combat and special moves. While Bats and Cap aren't exactly counterparts, they're great opponents for each other. That's why I think this game felt like a cheap version of Arkham City. This game was a tie-in to the movie and it was set in WWII.

The Story

One thing that makes the Batman games great is the story. They tie-in to no TV show, movie, or comic. The games tell their own independent story. The Joker died for crying out loud!

I think this game should be set in the modern period. The first one should (I'll get to why in a minute). Fans have been drawn to his character in a way never done before. Just like Iron Man, Thor, and the rest of the Avengers. Explore Cap in a completely different way. Keep the modern look for him, but get a different voice or something. Have different things happen. For instance, have him be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent before leading the Avengers like in the MCU. Changes things up like that to keep the story fun and fresh. He'll meet all of his fellow Avengers, but they won't be a team just yet. Exploring that side of Cap would be cool to see in a video game.

Now getting to why his first game should be set in the modern world. We've already had that, we haven't had a Cap game in the modern world. His WWII experience should be done like how Arkham Origins was handled. I feel that would be the better way to do it.

Explore Cap's struggle with being a soldier at heart. Age of Ultron explored that quite brilliantly I think. He was literally bred for war. That's all he knows is combat.

I think a cool comic line to explore would be this one right here

The Ultimates
The Ultimates

That there, if Frank Simpson. The Vietnam Captain America. He would be a perfect villain for the game. By no means the main villain, but a great one for Cap. In the Ultimates, Wolverine (back when he was Weapon X) was the one that abducted Simpson for the Super Soldier Project and set him on this path. Simpson is trying to break Captain America the way he was broken back in 'Nam. I think this is the closest we'll get to Scarecrow for Cap.

Black Widow and Falcon have become very popular allies of Captain America since Captain America: The Winter Soldier and I'll say Hawkeye too. Not as popular (as an ally of Cap), but for this game it could work. S.H.I.E.L.D. thaws Cap out and he meets his allies this way. Have them be playable too either through pre-order bonuses or expansions. That's never a bad idea. Fans would go crazy for a chance to play Black Widow. I know it's risky, but maybe have a Co-op feature..? Show the dynamics that he has with these characters also include Coulson, Maria Hill, and Nick Fury. Throw in his distrust of S.H.I.E.L.D. later on and other things to make the game intense.

The Game

There's so much potential. Other playable characters, sure, but what about the game as a whole? The Helicarrier should be fully open to explore, the Triskelion too. I'm trying to move away from New York City. With a Captain America game, you won't be locked in there. Cap is a stealthy guy and utilizes it well as seen in Cap 2, but he also has no problem going in guns a blazing and taking down bad guys with the likes of Thor. Cap is more fluid acrobatic fighter than Batman so show that in the game. Have unique shield combos, special attacks, etc. A Captain America game should not be the same as a Batman game. They operate on a totally different level. Cap would be an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in this game so he doesn't fight crime and protect the streets. He's a covert operative. Have team attacks too. It would definitely be cool if we run into Iron Man on a mission or say S.H.I.E.L.D. sends in Cap with Hulkbusters to take down Hulk, but he makes a different call. Have him go in to deal with the aftermath of Thor and Loki. The Easter Eggs are the funnest things.

Potential for an Avengers Game

It would be absolutely amazing if we got an Avengers game on this level. Like the films, I think Hulk should have his own game along with Cap, Iron Man, and Thor have theirs. That way, each character is explored and allies and potential new Avengers are seen. Like Falcon in the Cap game, or War Machine in an Iron Man game, or She-Hulk in a Hulk game. The core six as seen above have become the most popular team so that game would probably be those six, but with help from others.

Well...I haven't been on here in a while and I really hope you have enjoyed this article and I hope I see more of these!(:
