Are you a fan of the Hellboy franchise? Did you give up all hope of seeing a third movie in the live-action adaptation series? Do you want to get slightly and tentatively excited? Well, if the answer to these questions is "Yes," make sure you keep your eyes reading, because I've got some news for you...

Let me start by saying, this isn't exactly a confirmation of the final film in a Hellboy trilogy, but Ron Perlman did recently post a very interesting tease. Check it out below:

Of course, the caption to Perlman's Instagram post does seem to suggest a third movie (hence the reference to an additional Roman numeral) is finally going to become a reality. This is in contravention to statements previously released by Perlman and Guillermo del Toro, which basically told us Hellboy would not get another sequel.

Although del Toro and Perlman were pessimistic, it didn't stop the fans clamoring for a third live-action adaptation of the graphic novel. Maybe Universal has taken a page from Deadpool's book and finally decided to grant the fans what they've always wanted? Could we be getting more of this stuff:

Maybe, but until we get a more unambiguous confirmation I'd hold off throwing a party just yet. In fact, the Deadpool comparison might not be the best. Although both Deadpool and Hellboy movies had legions of fans backing them up, Deadpool is riding on the wave of highly lucrative superhero movies. Meanwhile, graphic novel live-action adaptations are bit more of a gamble.

Although 300: Rise of an Empire did relatively well at the box office, the complete flop of graphic novel sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For might work against a potential Hellboy III. Furthermore, although well received by critics, neither Hellboy movie probably made much, if any, money for Universal. Which is a shame considering it contained scenes like this:

However, maybe the filmmaking gods have smiled down on the patient Hellboy fans for their unwavering dedication. If Universal has indeed greenlit Hellboy III, it is certainly a victory for people power and fan pressure. I'd watch this space if I were you.
