Let me give you a back story on how this all started. When I was in high school I was a huge gamer, still am. My brother and I always saved up money to buy the new console to share and play, buying mowing yards and other odd jobs. One day after we bought a Nintendo Gamecube, my Mom told us that she will never ever buy us a new console. She also went on to say that we couldn't buy a new console either, saying it was a waste of time and money. She was just mad because we stopped playing with the N64 when we got an Xbox. Sorry Golden Eye, hello Halo!
After this news I was kind of bummed. The only thing I could think of was how to get my hands on a Xbox 360. The system just came out and I really, really wanted to buy Deadrising (That's right, I said it. I love that game still. I feel like I was the only one that completely beat that game....). Then it hit me.
At that time I worked at a Boys and Girls Club right after I got out of High School. So I decided to save most of my checks from that point on. It wasn't a lot of money since I worked only a few hours after school, but it helped a lot. When I wasn't making money fast enough I started to save my lunch money (My mom still does not know this). Instead of eating at the Cafeteria my friends, that were rallying to my cause, allowed me to bum some food off them.
After I got all the money saved up I then asked one of my friend's older brother to drive us to a Walmart. I perfectly timed it when my parents were not home so I didn't raise any suspicions. After paying for the 360 and a few games with just 20s and 5s I was on my way home with the 360.
When I got home I snuck upstairs into my bedroom and slid the console and games under my bed far back against the wall. Then I placed other boxes and such in front of it. Then Bam, the deed was done!
What I forgot to tell you is that I bought the console in October.... I had to wait so many DAYS to play the system! In the end though, it was going to be worth it.
When it hit December I went out and bought Christmas wrapping paper and I had my friend sign the presents. This was so I would not tip off my parents with my handwriting. The signs all said To: Derek From: Santa Cluas. This was because my little brother was still really young and believed in Santa Claus still. So my parents wouldn't dare to argue about it when I opened the 360 Christmas morning.
Christmas took forever to get to! All my friends kept rubbing it in as well, asking if I played it yet, and telling me that the system is awesome. Day by day I waited and then it was Christmas Eve.
The whole day I was stoked. It was my first Christmas Eve that all I wanted to do was go to bed. When everyone finally did, I made sure that I got up around 3 in the morning. It was this time because I didn't run into my parents placing presents under the tree. When I went down to check the tree, it looked like my parents had already been there. So the mission was GO!
I Tiptoed down the stairs with my packages and when I got downstairs I slid out some of the presents from under the tree so I could place all of my presents in the back corner of the tree. This was to hide the fact any packages were added when my parents looked at the tree in the morning. When that morning came I was the first one downstairs!
We did the family ritual of opening one present at a time, and I made sure that my bothers and I gave the presents out so that my parents didn't get too close to the tree to see the stack of presents still left. After my bothers and I finished our presents my Mom said,"Well that is it. Time to get dressed for Grandma's." At that time I shyly said,"Oh wait, I think I see more under the tree." My mom and Dad both gave each other a glare and all I could do was smirk.
After I pulled the presents out from under the tree all my parents could do was stare. I of course opened the big present first (The 360). I think I made some dumb remark like,"No Way", but my parents had a reaction that I didn't expect. At that time my Dad was scared of Anthrax since it was during that time period of 9/11. So when he saw the box he grabbed it and was checking it, thinking that it was a bomb or something. My Mom was just giving him the death glare, and of course my Dad was shaking his head to say,"I didn't do this!"
My Mom then inquired if there was more names on the present, at that time I said "no.... just mine, see". That is when I gave the present signs to my Mom. Then while I started to hook up the 360 finally, my parents started to call all of their friends and my friend's parents to see if they misplaced a present. Of course they had no idea what they were talking about. My parents then had to go to another room and I bet they were both interrogating each other to see which one bought the Present.
While they were doing that I just happily played Call of Duty 3 and Deadrising on the couch.
Best Christmas day ever!
