Most actors and directors start off by working on horror films, as it is possible to churn out decent scary films with a smaller budget.

Therefore, it isn't surprising at all that a lot of our favorite and talented actors appeared in a few horror films earlier on in their careers, as well as further down the road as well.

I don't blame them. Wouldn't it be fun to don some scary vampire teeth? Or walk around like a zombie with fake guts in your mouth? Or be covered in movie magic blood? It sounds like a very enjoyable time to me.

Below is a list of our favorite celebrities whose characters suffered terrifying deaths in horror films. Beware! Some of these videos are rather gruesome.

1. Chris Hemsworth in Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Before the Hemsworth clan really blew up, Chris Hemsworth appeared in this horror film about the Buckner zombie family being brought back from the dead. Why Hemsworth didn't warn his friend not to mess with ancient books and spells? I don't know, but it sadly resulted in his death.

2. Matthew McConaughey in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994)

McConaughey plays the character Vilmer, who is related to a bunch of crazy family members, including Leatherface. This film also stars Renee Zellweger, who is trying to escape the vile Vilmer and his insane family. It might be difficult to see, but the tanned blonde guy on the ground who gets hit by a plane is in fact McConaughey.

3. John Travolta in The Devil's Rain (1975)

Can you imagine a John Travolta before he was famous? It is interesting to see his name unmentioned in this trailer for The Devil's Rain. It is known, however, that John Travolta appeared as one of these men dying from a melting face. Who knew this pretty boy could get so ugly?

4. Jada Pinkett-Smith in Scream 2 (1997)

In Scream 2, Pinkett-Smith plays the character Maureen, who attends a film called Stab with who she thinks is her boyfriend dressed up in a mask. During a climax of the film, in which the lead girl is stabbed to death, Pinkett realizes that the man next to her is not, in fact, her boyfriend. In a movie theater filled with people, he begins to stab her.

I just experienced some shivers running down my spine.

5. Justin Long in Jeepers Creepers (2001)

This clip might not show you how, but Justin Long plays the character Darry, who unfortunately gets his eyes scooped out from his skull. This ending is so dark and chilling, and that happy song at the end is so incredibly deceiving.

6. Robert De Niro in Hide and Seek (2005)

Imagine being Dakota Fanning and having the chance to act alongside the talented Robert De Niro. Excuse the terrible quality of the clip, and the fact that it doesn't showcase De Niro's death, but you can just feel the overall tone of the entire film here.

If this clip doesn't chill your bones, then you must be made of steel.

7. Samuel L. Jackson in Deep Blue Sea (1999)

It's incredibly difficult to get past the horrible CGI shark, but then again this film was made in the late '90s. I tend to look at Jackson's characters as indestructible and fierce, so seeing him die is incredibly traumatic. He's still a strong, powerful man in my eyes.

This does nothing to conquer my fear of sharks, by the way.

8. Charlize Theron in The Devil's Advocate (1997)

This film may be more of a mystery thriller, but the suspense and events that occur in this film will have you scared and on the edge of your seat! Mary Ann (Theron) is placed in a mental facility when she claims that her husband's boss has raped her. As Kevin, her husband (played by Keanu Reeves) visits her, she commits suicide in an incredibly gruesome way.

After, Kevin finds out that his boss is not only his father, but the Devil. Talk about discovering some hard-hitting family secrets.

9. Jeremy Renner in 28 Weeks Later (2007)

A sequel to the film 28 Days Later, Jeremy Renner, once again, sticks his neck out for others to help lead them to safety. After an outbreak of the Rage Virus, Sergeant Doyle (Renner) is sent to Britain to help quarantine and kill anyone who might be affected with the virus.

He runs off with Scarlet (Rose Byrne) and her two kids who carry the potential cure. Doyle ends up sacrificing his life for the greater good.

10. Danny Masterson in Dracula 2000 (2000)

Danny Masterson plays the character nightshade, who goes digging through an old stolen coffin for valuables.

What he finds inside is more than he can bargain with - an awakened vampire with the thirst for blood. Also, it is entertaining to see Gerard Butler as a vampire, long hair, big fangs, and all.

All that blood, gore, and violence! No wonder they signed on to act in those films. It must be fun to step into another character's shoes, whether they are an evil vampire, a sergeant, a masked murderer, or the Devil's son.

Not to mention performing in a death scene must actually be somewhat of a good time, especially when stunts and CGI are involved.
