When doing anything you like, should it be playing basketball or just watching a movie, I feel that you should now the history of that thing. Like in movies there are classics and Anime is no different.

There are a lot of new anime watchers out there, thanks to the awesome power of Crunchyroll! The only problem I have with the site is that they never have old anime shows on their streaming list. This causes a lot of amazing old animes that changed the world.....of Anime.

So if you watch anime or just getting into these are what I think are the shows you HAVE to watch!

1.Dragonball Z

I have to get this out of the way, it was the Elephant in the room. If you know anything about Anime you would had to run into this series. Sure it is super long, but it tells an amazing epic story that you will never forget. I can still tell people details of stories, even though it has been years since I watched the show. Take everybody's word for it, this show is worth the watch.

2. Neon Genesis Evangelion

There is a good reason why this show has so many remakes. This anime is just not about action, but it deals with a lot of psychological problems as well. This is also one of those rare times, back in the day, that the story followed a weak hearted main character. It was just a whole lot of "feelings" that you couldn't get anywhere else.

3. Cowboy Bebop

Everyone loved this show that has seen it. Even the Jocks back in high school would talk about this show. Who knew that Cowboys and Star Wars would make such an amazing combination. This show has all the qualities you would like in a show and it it still holds up to this day! The theme song is also one of the more memorable things from this show, you'll know it when you hear it!

4. Pokemon

This show helped carve the way for so many animes it's not even funny. Because this show touched so many kids lives that they became more used to the drawing and style of anime. This helped me and many others grow to like Digimon and other animes that were popping out all over through the popularity of this show!

5. Trigun

This show was so good that they decided to make a movie as well! This is a story of Vash Stampede who is being hunted down for outrageous amounts of money for a crime that he cannot even remember! This show has some really funny moment in it and it ends up having a heart felt ending. this show is one that everyone loves to bring up!

6.Fullmetal Alchemist

This is probably the youngest show on this list, but it is one of those shows that needs to be shoved down your throat. The animation and color in this series is some of the best in this industry. The series was so popular that there was a remake of the series and it was called Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. This series was based off the Manga series and was called a reboot to the series!

7.Sailor Moon

I know I am going to get so much crap for this, but I feel like this has a place on this list. What other show at that time had an all female cast of superheroes that saved the day? If there were it wasn't that many. Even the girl that hated anime the most knew this show. It helped a lot of females get involved with anime and people still cosplay as the characters to this day, boys and girls alike!

8.Ranma 1/2

yep, same person in the blue and red.
yep, same person in the blue and red.

Ranma 1/2 was boldly going where a lot of anime at the time would be scared to touch. Ranma was one of the first "ecchi" series that became super popular in 87, it told the story of a gender bending character that would turn into a boy or a girl when he touched either hot or cold water. (Only Japan!) The father actually did the same thing but instead of a girl he turned into a giant Panda. This is because them falling into different cursed bodies of water when they were training. The show is a comedy of course and is still a show I like to dish out to new comers that are looking for the classic weird stuff.

so many Gundams....
so many Gundams....

This show started way back in 79 and it is still getting new series. This show is so popular that games are still being made from the franchise. On one the most well known Gundam series was Gundam Wing. It follow a team of mercenaries piloting their own specialized robots. The show was so cool as a kid! I think this is what caused my bother to start loving Mech anime series. There are so many series to this show that there is going to be one that you will like!

This is one of my guilty pleasures..... I was introduced to this show through my dad buying the VHS tapes that had only one episode on them! he saw it at a Half Price Books one day and I fell in love with it. The action was cool and it was kind of like transformers meets G.I. Joe, just with a bunch more death and romance. Earth versus War crazed Aliens, would win? The best series, in a lot of opinions, is still Battle Cry. The action and city fighting was so cool to watch and the animations for the robots and dogfights were amazing! This is a show that I still proudly display on my book shelf!

This is not a ranking system at all, this is just something I usually tell younger anime watchers about. They usually give me a grossed out expression when they see the animation and style of the show, but after a while they usually come around.

This is just a few, A FEW, animes that I grew up with or found when I got older. I know I missed a crap ton and I know I might have offended a few for leaving their favorites off this list, but make sure you leave your favorite in the comments so others can see and watch it! Heck, I do that all the time!

That's why I love doing these!

What was your favorite old anime?
