Every now and then things happen in Hollywood that make you question how little most people really have going on in their life. Sometimes you can get an entire group of people together for a cause regardless of said causes relevance. This happens so often that I think I may just start doing a bi-weekly piece on something small that people are turning into a HUGE deal for no reason. I think I may call it....

When Stupidity Unites:

UPDATE: The petition IS real, however, it is not a real Creed fan. It was reported in Spin, Livewire and various other sources, however it was just a good old fashion trolling by Nick Robinson. Still totally believable as things a real Creed fan might say and my reaction doesn't change so....

Today we focus on the new up and coming Rocky spinoff, Creed. Information is recently flooding onto the internet and we are learning everything there is to know about the story line which we will be able to see this upcoming fall. IMDB sumarizes the plot for us: The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Creed, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed.

In the midst of reboot nation there must always be something to complain about. The wrong actors cast as well known characters. The wrong Directors for the project. Horribly written, badly produced, studio fed... you name it and there is a fan that complains. They are fans of the story and the plot line. It's about the quality for them.

So when I happened upon this news, I choked on my coffee. Laughing when you're drinking is really hard. Here's the deal: Change.org, where anyone can bitch. There is a lot of good done on there. However there are also petitions for ridiculous things...like Creed fans demanding the new Rocky film changing its name. Take a little read below:

"The movie CREED about the son of Rocky Balboa’s deceased trainer’s son, is making it difficult, if not impossible, for the still-vital online Creed fanbase to exchange thoughts and discussion regarding band developments, song interpretation, rumors, non-erotic fanfiction, and deeper insights into the expanded Creed universe. MGM has completely disrespected the Creedmunity by using the name of the still-popular band for their non-Creed related movie and have been stifling conversation by flooding social media hashtags and searches with non-music Creed discussion. MGM should have consulted Creed experts and online leaders before titling this movie. The Creedmunity will not be silenced."

Okay...Jesus, man...literally. Jesus wants you to drop it and move on to something that matters. There is so much pain and suffering in this world...Creed actually caused some of it. I remember being in my pop punk band back in high school. Our drummer, who was an amazing musician in every form, loved Creed. Like a prisoner being water boarded, my ears took torture for the greater good. To make music we love. Which is all Creed was doing, so I guess I can't just attack them like that.

Guys...people are starving and shit.
Guys...people are starving and shit.

As for the claim that it will make it

"difficult, if not impossible to exchange thoughts and discussion regarding band developments, song interpretation, rumors, non-erotic fanfiction, and deeper insights into the expanded Creed universe."

I can not foresee any event in which you are trying to listen to Creed and the Rocky Reboot interrupts you. Are you afraid that the movie will be so enticing that you can't check your Creed Twitter feed? If you read further you can see that they are talking about their internet feed. You see, until now, if you searched Creed it was easy to find the band. Even in the 8 year absence from the world (2001-1009) nothing took over. The main reason being that you couldn't sell that name to someone. It was tainted.

"MGM has completely disrespected the Creedmunity by using the name of the still-popular band for their non-Creed related movie and have been stifling conversation by flooding social media hashtags and searches with non-music Creed discussion."

Okay...still popular is a pretty strong statement. I'm not saying that there aren't fans of Creed out there or that their needs are irrelevant. I will however go out on a limb and say that the number of Rocky fans outweigh the number of Creed music fans ten fold time 20. Also, there are tons of Charmed and Pee Wee Herman fans out there too, it doesn't mean those things are popular.

As far as as flooding out your social media with non-music Creed discussion, you can't really get mad because the fans of one thing want to talk about it more than another. And regarding the fact that Creed called it first... 1976 was when the original Rocky came out. There were actually 5 total films before the band even formed. The popularity of the name "Creed" started with the Rocky franchise. So chew on that.

So I call to all Rocky franchise fans, and Apollo Creed lovers to rally together and start your own petition. A petition to stop the band Creed from sullying the name of a beloved Rocky character created 20 years before they formed. The Creedmunity has brought up a good point. We can't have TWO people using that name. We never cared before, but now that it's been brought up.....
