Now, one of the most striking things about the very existence of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is just how much of a surprise its announcement - back at 2013's San Diego Comic-Con - was. After all, though Man of Steel - released a month before that announcement - was widely assumed to be the beginning of a new DC Cinematic Universe, there wasn't a whole lot of connectivity immediately established within the film itself.
What's more - despite, or perhaps because of, the movie existing in an entirely different universe to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight series, there was a notable lack of Batman-related hints.
That, though, was almost not at all the case. Y'see:
Zack Snyder Wanted to Have Batman Cameo in Man of Steel
That's right - the Man of Steel (and now Batman v Superman) director was, at one time, considering including a pretty major Batman-related moment at the very end of the movie. Specifically, he was toying with the idea of introducing Kryptonite to the DCCU in a very particular way:
As Snyder revealed to EW, as part of the magazine's recent Comic-Con special:
"I said, ‘What about at the end of the movie we do a scene where there’s a crate full of kryptonite delivered to Wayne Manor..."
Yup. That's right.
For a moment there, Man of Steel was totally going to end with a giant crate of Kryptonite being delivered to Wayne Manor. The reason I say 'for a moment'? The response to Snyder's suggestion was apparently...not great:
"Everyone was like…‘Okaay.’ Once you say it out loud it’s a problem because you can’t unsay it."
Most especially, as it turns out, when you tell the story to major news outlets.
Fear not, though, Bat-fans! The absence of Kryptonite from Man of Steel doesn't mean we won't be seeing it in Batman v Superman.
Batman Will Definitely Have a Kryptonite-Infused Suit in Batman v Superman
Now, in fairness, that's been pretty widely assumed by most fans for a while now - after all, without Kryptonite, Batman's chances against Superman are more-or-less non-existent - but we now seemingly have official confirmation.
That same EW article, y'see, also mentioned this:
"If you’re going toe-to-toe with the son of Jor-El, you better come correct. For his climactic rooftop brawl with Superman, Batman outfits himself with a reinforced mech-suit equipped with strength-augmenting armor and, yes, kryptonite. The design resembles the one used for the confrontation between these two in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns."
Meaning that body-armor...
...is going to be practically bursting to the seams with Superman-poisoning Kryptonite.
After all, Batman may always win - but he doesn't always fight fair...
