These were the catch phrases that sent chills down the spines of the criminals of the 30's and 40's. Before Batman before Superman there was The Shadow. A man of a mysterious past Lamont Cranston or sometimes Kent Allard prowls the streets to rid New York City of crime. Known publicly as a wealthy playboy about town, only a few trusted agents of his vast network know his true mission. The Shadow posses genius level intelligence and is a detective in his own right. He also is a master of hypnosis and has the power "to cloud men's minds" He trained in Asia master forms of mind control and martial arts, and served in WWI as an intelligence officer or spy. He is a master of disguise, infiltration, mimicry, and stealth. Armed with his twin .45's The Shadow has no qualms about killing the bad guys. His ruthless determination and tactical know how make him the ideal leader for a strike force to take down a crazed Batman. The Shadow had such an impact on early pop culture that Batman was heavily based on him even originally carrying a gun and killing thugs.
Vic Sage aka The Question is known as the world's second greatest detective. In his day job the Question is a television investigative reporter that follows stories of corruption and crime. While perhaps not the toughest fighter in the DC universe there are few who can match his investigation skills. Some argue that he is indeed a better detective than Batman. To bring down an evil Batman you need brains like this. He is also often portrayed as a bit of a conspiracy nut and known for his thinking out of the box and often unorthodox methods which still seem to yield results. The Question posses a genius level intellect, is a master of disguise, is a capable hand to hand fighter trained in Dragon Style Kung Fu, has an indomitable will, and is a master of interrogation, intimidation and investigation. The Question is proof you don't need billions and fancy gizmos to fight crime.
Richard "Dick" Grayson aka Nightwing was the original boy wonder known as Robin. Taken in by Bruce Wayne when his family died. Dick was raised and trained under the shadow of the Batman. At a young age he was able to fight and take down full grown men fighting alongside Batman as Robin. Eventually Robin went solo and founded the Teen Titans, and reinvented himself as Nightwing. He knows all of Batman's moves tricks and methodologies he has even down the cowl when Batman was thought to be dead. He is in many ways the equal to Batman but is able to see the fun side of life. Armed with similar equipment and weaponry as the Bat he is a formidable opponent. Nightwing is a master acrobat, detective, a born leader, master of multiple martial arts, he is a skilled hacker, escapologist, and like his mentor posses an indomitable will. Nightwing would be a key player in taking down the Bat and perhaps the only hope of bringing Batman back from the abyss.
Tim Drake the third Robin. At a young age Tim was able to discover the secret identities of Batman and Robin. After the death of Jason Todd Batman became darker and Drake took it upon himself to right hings. First he approached Nightwing and tried to convince him to take up his old mantle of Robin. When Dick refused Tim tracked down Batman and convinced him to take him on as the new Robin. When Batman was thought to be dead Tim took up the mantle for a short time but was nearly killed by Jason Todd. After Dick Grayson assumed the role of Batman and took Damian Wayne as his Robin, Tim went abroad and took up the guise of Red Robin. Like Nightwing Red Robin posses similar training and gear to Batman. His determination and passion make him the ideal final member of the team to help take down the evil Batman.
