British based digital illustrator David Hamilton a.k.a. WinterSixFour found something interesting to do with the immense amount of Penguin Classic Edition masterpieces he collected while earning a Liberal Arts degree many years ago. He decided to do redo their stodgy covers with modern pop references so a new generation can read and enjoy them and hopefully see them in new ways.

The results are neat and very much spot on.

Most are pretty obvious if you think about the title long enough. Fathers and Sons is pretty much the whole Star Wars six pack in a nutshell. The Beast Within echoes The Hulk as much as The Man in the Iron Mask echoes a Tony Stark origin story. Of course there is only one person you can put on a novel titled Indiana.

Some like the Nostromo cover with its wink to the Alien inspired title ship, acknowledging their imaginative source.
