With Phase 2 complete, here is my top 10 Marvel films up to and including Ant-Man. This list is merely my opinion and if you disagree, create a post and let me know!
10. Captain America: The First Avenger
The first movie in the MCU chronologically speaking! In an era where we’re obsessed with dark and brooding superheroes, Captain America is a breath of fresh air. He reminds us that superheroes don’t have to be dark and disturbed to be interesting, they don’t need cracks and flaws to earn our affection, they don’t have to be alien gods or magic, motorcycle riding demons.
Captain America in his own simple way shows what's noble and good about humanity. That’s not boring, it’s awesome.
9. Thor: The Dark World
The sequel to the original Thor film, Thor: The Dark World shows us that you can make a good character film whilst using magic and wizardry. Despite having a weak villain, Thor 2 showed us good quality character development with our favorite characters.
8. The Incredible Hulk
Another Marvel film at the beginning of it all, the incredible hulk gave us a perfectly balanced film between Bruce Banner's human side and The Hulk's green monster side. This leads into a great battle at the end between two monsters and sets up Bruce Banner's part in the Avengers brilliantly.
Another great origin, the best part was how they dealt with Ant-Man, they created a good, solid character in Scott Lang, and the story seemed logical and flowed really well, the way they integrated Scott and Hank Pym fitted so well.
I also like how they lowered the stakes from Avengers: Age of Ultron, which I love! The movie is simply a heist movie, and a good one at that.
6. Guardians of the Galaxy
This movie defied all expectations, everyone thought this would crash and burn the first week-end. But this movie has huge amounts of laughter with scattered dark moments. It made audiences laugh and cry at the same time. We are groot...
Thor was another film that defied expectations. Once again people thought a demi-god with lighting would not work as a movie, but they did the best thing with this character and they humanised him, which they made the audience relate to him on an a higher level, making the movie that much more Interesting.
4. Iron Man
The first film to come out in the MCU, kicked things off with style! Once again, this film humanised Tony Stark, with the cave segment helping the audience to engage with him on an emotional level. It helped us to understand Tony Stark's motivations throughout the rest of the movie. This move also has great action, intriguing new technology, and a non-forced love interest, which is never a bad thing.
3. The Avengers
The culmination of the all of phase one. The Avengers showed us that a film full of superheroes is not only a good idea, but a great idea. They used their own solo movies to help feed into this film. We already knew the characters, so they developed them, and got on with the action, making this movie so much better.
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
An unexpectedly successful movie when it came out! This was Cap's first film in the 21st century, and the Russo brothers successfully turned this superhero film into a political thriller. They had the perfect balance of humor and seriousness in the film, whilst having their cast bring their A-Game.
This movie was so highly praised that it led to the Civil War story-line being imported to a Cap film, and placed onto the Russo' brothers door, and for good reason.
1. Avengers: Age of Ultron
My favorite Marvel film so far has to be Avengers: Age of Ultron!
This film has fantastic action sequences, a brilliant story line, excellent chemistry between the Avengers characters, and a menacing villain to round it all off! It will be extremely difficult to top this film. And if anything does, then I personally cannot wait to see it.
