For the most part, [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice](tag:711870) has been getting the spotlight in superhero news recently. Entertainment Weekly has posted many exclusive images and interviews from the new magazine. Coming up is Comic-Con, an event where Warner Bros. will give fans a "a sneak peek at the 2016 action adventure that brings the Super Heroes together on the big screen for the very first time."
Ever since Wonder Woman was announced for Batman v Superman, the Man of Steel follow-up, many have been speculating how she'll fit into the movie. After all, she will be a major character as the DC Extended Universe continues. Official details and rumors now seem to confirm the Amazon Warrior's role.
You may have a question lingering in your mind: Why should I trust any of these rumors? To that, I have an answer. JoBlo's Paul Shirey knew what Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman costume would look like before it was shown to the whole world. His exclusive scoop, posted on June 23, 2014, debunked the rumors that she would wear pants and a black leather jacket, and he was totally correct.
The description of the outfit from our source uses the term “badass” on multiple occasions. This Wonder Woman is ripped right from the comics and has a “traditional, yet sleeker” costume that’s “battle ready.” She’ll have a blue leather skirt, silver-armored cuffs that reach to her elbows, golden tiara (with a design of some sort in the center, possibly the red star) and a variation of the traditional-looking red top (no word on additional armor on it).
Now, if JoBlo was right about Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman costume, chances are that everything else from their source is correct. Plus, there are comments from Gadot and Snyder to back the rumors up.
(Warning: Potential mild and major spoilers follow! Do not read if you do not wish to know them before the film comes out.)
She Will Be Introduced as Diana Prince
First of all, JoBlo states "her character will be introduced as 'Diana' in the film initially before we ever see her as Wonder Woman."
Diana Prince, for those unfamiliar with the name, is Wonder Woman's secret identity. She has had many careers, ranging from an army nurse to a government official, but in this movie, she will be connected to people of wealth and power, like Bruce Wayne and possibly Lex Luthor. Take a look at Entertainment Weekly's image and description for one of the stills:
Batman and Wonder Woman have a meeting of alter-egos as Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince parry and flirt at a high-society function. “I love the fact that there was this Thomas Crowne Affair, Bond-y sexy scene that they wrote about two people who are pretending to be two different people who each know the secrets of the other person,” says Ben Affleck.
What is the high-society function? It could be an event led by Lex Luthor to raise money to fix Metropolis. It could also be a party hosted by Bruce Wayne, which would be easy to explain.
What information could they be sharing? Has Diana heard a government secret? Is Bruce already preparing to take down Superman? Are they planning something with Lex?
Wherever they are and whatever they are doing, one thing is certain: Wonder Woman is one of Batman's confidants. Batman and Wonder Woman being friends may also make their relationship with Superman different when Batman fights Superman.
There Will Be a Final Battle
However, this final battle will not be Batman versus Superman.
[Wonder Woman] will have a fair amount of screen time and will team up with Batman and Superman for the final battle against an un-named villain who may be working or controlled by Lex Luthor. (JoBlo)
This detail is very significant and complements the official Batman v Superman synopsis, which points at a force "putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before."
Who is this threat? Doomsday has been widely speculated, with Metallo, Darkseid, and Brainiac as possibilities.
Regardless, seeing the Trinity (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman) fighting together on the silver screen sounds totally awesome and expect an astonishing battle with Zack Snyder directing.
She Will Introduce the Justice League
If it isn't obvious, Dawn of Justice is supposed to set up Justice League, so it makes sense that the whole Batman and Superman fight will not be the climax of the movie. Even the star, Henry Cavill states Batman vs Superman is an "introduction to Batman, opening to Justice League and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel. (EW)" Even though we know about the Justice League, the big thing we don't know is how the World's Greatest Superheroes will meet in this iteration of the story.
Fortunately, the visionary director of the movie explains that Wonder Woman will not just be there for the battle.
“She plays a super-important part,” Snyder says. “In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League.” (EW)
It's a funny way of putting it. To me, this is the most intriguing part of the whole thing. Why? Wonder Woman has connections with Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, and possibly Green Lantern. How she has those connections will be very interesting.
Her Origin Will Be Undisclosed
Her origin will be intentionally vague, but she is brought into the fold to show that there are other superheroes in the universe other than Superman. (JoBlo)
This definitely makes sense, as Wonder Woman is set to soar in her own film in on June 23, 2017, just a few months before the whole Justice League lands in theaters.
Something worth noting is that Wonder Woman is centuries old. It's always been a part of her character and it doesn't seem like it will change. The part that will change is Diana being a demigod. Originally, it was said that she was born of clay. In The New 52, however, it was revealed that Zeus was actually her father, but they had to tell the story of her being of clay as to not upset Hera, his wife.
Now, for those skeptical of Gal Gadot being cast as Wonder Woman, don't be. If she is as terrible of a casting as some of you make it seem, she would have been recast. Zack Snyder helped pick her, along with Ben Affeck, whom Gadot auditioned with. Also, barely any of us have seen footage with her as Wonder Woman, so no one can judge her acting as the character.
To sum up, it seems Wonder Woman will be one of the highlights of Dawn of Justice. It will be her first cinematic appearance and the DC Extended Universe will have another great female character. Of course, there's always the chance that these rumors could be false, but they seem highly likely and there's a some evidence to back them up. In the meantime, look watch the next Batman vs Superman trailer closely and see if you can spot her. Be sure to answer the polls!
