Live-action re-imaginings of fairytales have been quite a lucrative business as of late. So, it should come as no surprise that Disney is looking into a movie about the charming Prince. According to Variety, Disney acquired a script about Prince Charming that is a live-action comedy. It was written by Mat Fogel. And though there doesn't seem to be a lot of details quite yet, it will not be about the Prince, but about his underachieving brother.
I get it. Disney has been having a lot of success. Alice in Wonderland made over a billion dollars world wide. Maleficent over $700m and Cinderella, their lowest earner, got over $500m. The upcoming Beauty and the Beast should do just as well. And I will admit, I'm pretty excited for the Emma Watson lead film. But I have to admit, I just don't get this idea.
A movie about Prince Charming doesn't sound the most interesting. A movie about the Prince's jealous brother sounds even less so. The Prince will probably be a jerk but still sought after by all the girls. And the brother, he will be the good guy that can' get a girl. But in the end, after he does something heroic, he finds the love of his life. Just watch. I'm pretty sure I named the main plot.
But in the end, Disney is the one making millions. So, what do I know?
