The 1990s were somewhat of a golden age for teen movies, after John Hughes paved the way with his classic films in the 1980s, filmmakers swooped on the genre in the '90s churning out more films starring at-odd teens than you could shake a stick at.

But what happened to the actors who played some of our favorite characters in the biggest teen movies of the 90s? Take a look for yourself:

Christina Applegate - Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991)

Age then: 19

Age now: 43

Fun fact: Christina Applegate gained around 10 pounds to play 17-year-old Sue Allen "Swell" Crandell, and then lost all that weight after filming ended to continue with her role in the fifth season of the TV series Married...With Children

Ryan Phillippe - Cruel Intentions (1999)

Age then: 24

Age now: 40

Fun fact: The moment in the film where Annette slaps Sebastian was unscripted (see video below), however Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were so involved in the scene that Witherspoon slapped Phillippe meaning his reaction is totally genuine. Apparently Ryan was so emotionally involved in the scene that after director Roger Kumble called cut, he went behind the set and threw up!

Julia Stiles - 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Age then: 18

Age now: 34

Fun fact: The scene in which Kat reads the famous "10 things" poem was done in just one take! Also, Kat's tears towards the end of the poem were totally unplanned, but in the moment Julia Stiles was so overwhelmed she couldn't help but shed some tears!

Freddie Prinze Jr. - She's All That (1999)

Age then: 23

Age now: 39

Fun fact: She's All That was filmed at the same high school as Buffy the Vampire Slayer which starred Prinze Jr's now-wife Sarah Michelle Gellar! Prinze Jr. and Gellar met in 1997 when they co-starred on the film I Know What You Did Last Summr and she also had a small cameo role in She's All That as a student.

Robin Tunney - Empire Records (1995)

Age then: 23

Age now: 43

Fun fact: In Empire Records Tunney's character has a horizontal scar from a previous suicide attempt, and when she appeared in The Craft she played a character with a vertical scar from a suicide attempt.

Sam Huntington - Detroit Rock City (1999)

Age then: 17

Age now: 33

Fun fact: Detroit Rock City was the first movie to be released on DVD before VHS

Christina Ricci - Now and Then (1995)

Age then: 15

Age now: 35

Fun fact: Now and Then was the second movie released in 1995 in which Christina Ricci played the love interest of Devon Sawa, the other being Casper (he played Casper in human form).

Skeet Ulrich - Scream (1996)

Age then: 26

Age now: 45

Fun fact: When Billy is stabbed by Sidney with an umbrella the stunt man was supposed to hit a pad on Skeet Ulrich's chest, however on the second hit the umbrella hit him in the chest. Ulrich chest has metal wiring beneath the skin due to having open-heart surgery as a child, which causes him pain if struck or pressure is applied, therefore when the umbrella hit him, his expression and scream of pain was genuine. Wes Craven kept the take in the final cut of the film because it was so authentic.

Rose McGowan - Jawbreaker (1999)

Age then: 24

Age now: 41

Fun fact: Marlyn Manson was given his cameo role in Jawbreaker because at the time he was engaged to Rose McGowan.

Josh Hartnett - The Faculty (1998)

Age then: 19

Age now: 36

Fun fact: In exchange for Tommy Hilfiger product placement in the film, the cast appeared together in TV and print commercials for Tommy Jeans in 1998.

Mira Sorvino - Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997)

Age then: 28

Age now: 47

Fun fact: The Post-It note, which Romy and Michele famously pretend to have invented, was actually introduced in 1977 - 10 years before Romy and Michele graduated.

Chris Klein - Election (1999)

Age then: 20

Age now: 36

Fun fact: Election was Chris Klein's debut film and first professional acting job! Klein was discovered while Election director Alexander Payne was searching for schools to use in the film and he spotted Klein. While many other actors auditioned for the role of Paul, Klein in particular stuck in Payne's mind!

Lauren Ambrose - Can't Hardly Wait (1998)

Age then: 20

Age now: 37

Fun fact: Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, Freddy Rodriguez and Eric Balfour all starred in both Can't Hardly Wait and hit TV series Six Feet Under.
