It is based on the true story of French native Philippe Petit’s high-wire walk across the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in August of 1974.

The biographical drama, directed by Robert Zemeckis, was based on Petit’s memoir, “To Reach the Clouds.”

The story involves Petit and a team of associates who successfully stowed away in the towers until after hours then set up and filmed the high-wire artist making his trek some fifteen hundred above New York City.

For his trouble, Petit and his crew were arrested and charged with a variety of misdemeanor crimes.

A documentary about the walk, Man on a Wire, was released in 2008.

The Walk is rated “PG” and slated for a wide theatrical release on October 9, 2015.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt also stars in a second biopic this year.

Snowden, directed by Oliver Stone, is the story of CIA employee Edward Snowden’s leaking to the press thousands of classified items. It will be released on Christmas day, 2015.
