The second highly anticipated season of Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil has already managed to blow minds with its capture of the badass The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal, who'll turn out as Frank Castle, otherwise known as The Punisher.
But in just as exciting news, the two entertainment giants have announced who they have cast as the mysterious assassin, and on and off Murdoch lover Elektra.
French actress Élodie Yung will be wielding the sais and ass kicking her way through New York, as she embarks on her entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it's been a long awaited one, seeing as we haven't seen the Greek ninja since Jennifer Garner's attempt in 2003's Daredevil, and 2005's Elektra spinoff.
Naturally Marvel was pretty pleased with their new addition, and spared a few lovely words for her in a press announcement:
"After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity.
Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for."
That's nice, isn't it? You may remember Yung from 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, in which she played the weapon wielding, red-clad badass Jinx. So there's no small amount of irony in the fact that she's gonna be flinging various martial arts weapons around Hell's Kitchen all clad in red once again.
Here's a clip of Yung in action:
Who Is Elektra?
Just in case you don't know who I'm talking about, Elektra Natchios, is the daughter of a Greek ambassador, and went to the same university as both Matt Murdoch and Foggy Nelson, eventually getting very close to Murdoch and the two falling in love.
She was an avid martial arts enthusiast as a child, and after she and her father were held captive by a group of terrorists in a building on campus, her and Murdoch worked together to take them down. Unfortunately, in a case of mistaken identity, Elektra's father was shot dead by the police, which led her to leave the US and begin a life as an assassin.
Marvel has gone and done it again with yet another slice of masterful casting. I cannot wait for the second season of Daredevil, and to see what Yung has in store for Elektra.
