Gamescom is about two months away from us and I'm dying to get my hands on a more finalised version of Star Wars: Battlefront. DICE have put a tremendous amount of work into making this the ultimate Star Wars experience for the XBOX One, PS4 and PC. They've even stated that they were pretty terrified to take on the challenge. After all, Star Wars fans are one of the most devoted and vocal communities out there - you don't want to piss them off.
But having engaged with Star Wars: Battlefront in alpha form, I can see this will be all I want for Christmas...well, that and [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158). However, there are still parts of the game that I hope DICE work on in order for this to be the best Battlefront experience on its release date.
Star Wars: Battlefront - Everything That Needs to Be Fixed After the Alpha
Let me be clear that the alpha for Star Wars: Battlefront was an insane amount of fun. We'll have to see whether the entire package will be perfect for all of us and worth the money, but from what I can see so far this is the Star Wars: Battlefront I needed - except for the whole lack of space battles, that kinda sucks. In any case, let's break this down!
Star Wars: Battlefront is stunningly beautiful. The recent reveal of it running at 60FPS on PC is quite simply everything. I really wish I had a rig to run this beauty, but there's no way that's going to happen. But even in its alpha stage, this game is ridiculously beautiful. Animations are smooth, battles feel intense, laser fire looks great and the sight of a dog fight going on above your head is spectacular.
There was only one graphical upset I noticed in Star Wars: Battlefront, but it was more of a design issue. Now this was an alpha, but I personally just had a bit of an issue with the game's UI elements. They didn't fit with the game in my opinion and I hope they were just a placeholder.
Where is 64 players?! I really wish DICE had been able to include a larger player count in Battlefront. Star Wars: Battlefront II went up to 64 and it'll be a pity to see less bodies on the ground. Of course, there will be AI bots running around too, it's just something that I think a lot of gamers would liked to have seen at the outset of Star Wars: Battlefront. Maybe it'll come in the form of DLC. But DICE have stated that they felt 40 players was the perfect number for online battles. We'll be the judge of that I suppose.
Let's make this very clear: Star Wars: Battlefront was a dream to handle. Combat was insanely cool. I loved having weapons and grenades overheat as opposed to reloading (something different from the usual shooter is much appreciated), I loved the kick off a blaster and using the various power-ups at your disposal. However, there are minor changes I'd love to see implemented.
I'd love to see the AI increased in difficulty, especially in the survival mode of Star Wars: Battlefront. At times things feels a little too easy. I also didn't really like the token system they have in place for the power-ups. It's an interesting idea, but I'm not so sure it works. DICE also stated that the flying mechanics still have to be tweaked, which is awesome! They certainly had issues, but very minor ones at that.
Finally, I'm not too happy about certain vehicles being automated throughout the game. Be it the AT-AT, or the QTE takedown of them in speeders, I just think players should have control over these moments. Oh, and AT-STs need more amour for sure.
