According to Devin Faraci over at Birth.Movies.Death, the most iconic movie villain of all time might be returning to the big screen in 2016's Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One.
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and centers on Rebels trying to acquire the plans to the Empire's deadly new weapon; The Death Star. Set within this time frame it would only make sense for such a prominent character like Darth Vader to appear in the film.
Vader will not be the film's main antagonist but will have a behind the scenes type role, pulling the strings, and will appear on screen sometime during the film. Not counting the small appearance at the tail end of 2005's Revenge Of The Sith, this will be the first appearance of Darth Vader since 1983 when Return Of The Jedi hit theaters.
As a lifelong Star Wars fanatic I have always wanted to see Vader in the absolute prime of his life, between episodes 3 & 4, obviously because of the time the original trilogy was made in, we didn't get to really see what Vader could do, but we know from the extended universe that Vader was a force to be reckoned with.
It is unknown at this time whether original voice actor, James Earl Jones, will return to the character. He recently voiced Vader on the Disney XD cartoon; Star Wars Rebels which may or not may tie into Rogue One.
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One hits theaters December 16th 2016. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and stars Felicity Jones (The Theory Of Everything).
