Summer of 2015 is starting to take off and already there have been some highlight motion pictures killing the box office and sharing the spotlight. And if you haven't been able to catch some of this year's early hit films such as box office killers "Furious 7" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and , popcorn thriller "Mad Max: Fury Road" , there's no need to panic. This weekend you can catch what is currently killing the box office and what other movie goers are enjoying.
Lets be realistic, nowadays seeing a film is expensive. So if youre going to spend money to go out and see a film, see one that you would enjoy. I am no critic but mistakes are avoidable. Dont always depend on critics to determine whether a film is worth seeing or not. Take someone else's point of view. I work at the theater. Almost every day I see and meet people who walk in and out of the theater. And their opinions of the films they have seen has served as a good source for making this article. Here you can find out which films may NOT be worth the time and money to spend and which films you may want to catch while you can. Mistakes are avoidable. Lets start with the good.
Who doesn't love PETS!? Well Max is not JUST a pet but however is also fury hero with a strong nose and a long tongue. In the theater I work at there I have seen and heard nothing but good reactions from the dozens of audiences that have exited the theater. I have seen tears, I have seen hugs and smiles.
It's rare to see a good movie starring a dog. Few studios even try anymore. "Max" deserves an audience, and so does Boaz Yakin, one of the most underrated writer/directors working today. Yes, it gets a bit maudlin here and there, and the plot does get needlessly complicated, but Yakin's direction is so sure-handed, with both the action and the actors, that I can forgive a few weak points. And Yakin proves again (as he's done with "Remember the Titans," the under-seen "Fresh," and the unappreciated "Safe") that he can get a good performance from his young human lead (Josh Wiggins), as well as his canine lead. - Audience Review
Max surrounds a military dog from Afghanistan who is adopted by his late handler's grieving family in the U.S., where his close bond with the soldier's brother leads to a life-altering revelation.
A Great Family Heart Filled Movie. It has its frustrating moments, and tear filled eyes, but well worth the watch.
From what I hear from others, "Max" is heart felt, it is fun and just may reach the soul of all you animal lovers...and haters..Max is rated PG for peril, language and action violence and is currently playing in theaters.
I was a lover of the first film and now i am a lover of both films. "Ted 2" centers on Newlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn who want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he's a person in a court of law. Is it worth the watch and money ? Well it depends....on how much you could tolerate of Seth MacFarlane's crude sense of humor.
Ted 2 is even more outrageous and outlandish than the first. With it, though, comes its aimless plot and crude and easy gags that diminishes its ability to be better than its predecessor. Though far from great, the film is still a good laugh at the theater. 4/5 - Audience review
From my point if view "Ted 2" gives the same chemistry between Ted and John Bennett as we see in the first film. I got quite a few laughs out of this film and so did the audience. From my experience I felt a good majority of the audience in the theater enjoyed this film and have left with laughable moments they will remember from the film. But BE WARNED..Seth MacFarlane goes above and beyond in some moments.
Ted 2 won't win over people who weren't a fan of the first film, and it certainly won't win over people who dislike Seth Macfarlene's brand of humor, but for me it was a funny time to be had for sure. I was a big fan of the first Ted, and so I was happy to see that the same sense of humor was brought back for this. Mark Wahlberg and Seth Macfarlene both still have great chemistry and is truly what keeps this film from becoming like Macfarlenes last mess A Million Ways to Die in the West. - Audience Review (Rotten Tomatoes.com)
As for new cast addition Amanda Seyfried I felt fitted well into the film and her performance was decent. But as mentioned before: If you can tolerate Seth as much as I can and others did in the theater I was in you will certainly enjoy this film and get a couple of good laughs.
This movie definitely wasn't as good as the first, has some long stretches between jokes, and goes on a bit too long but MacFarlane is a random dude, just throwing stuff against a wall and seeing what works and he'll hit on a good joke every once and a while. - Audience Review.
However if you weren't a fan of the first film..you WONT be a fan of this one either..Ted 2 is currently in theaters and is rated R for for crude and sexual content, pervasive language, and some drug use)
We all have a little kid somewhere in us. Inside Out has been scoring in the box office. Every day I work at the theater there is always a good amount of audiences who come to see inside out. And it is not only parents that bring there kids that I see come in to see the film. When has Pixar EVER disappointed ever? We were all lovers of "UP"(2009) "Toy Story" and now Pixar brings you another heart felt, magnificently animated motion picture. Inside Out centers on Riley who struggles with her new life away from the Midwest. Like we all are, Riley is guided by her emotions. There is Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. While Riley's emotions struggle to adjust to their new life in San Francisco mayhem occurs in the headquarters of Riley's emotions. Joy ,Riley's most important emotion, tries to sweeten things up Riley's emotions must find a way to better cope.
"Inside Out is the first psychological thriller that's fun for the whole family. Really psychological. And really fun". -Metacritic.com
"Inside Out is arguably the best Pixar movie since Toy Story 3; it brings a refreshing look that reminds us just what type of studio Pixar is". -Metacritic.com
"The latest animation from Pixar is a clever visualization of the human psyche. - Margot Harrison ( Seven Days.com)
I've enjoyed every Pixar film I've came across. And Im expecting a joy out of this one. I am also excited to see that Amy Poehler ( Saturday Night Live, Parks and Recreations) performance as Joy. What a bonus!
In a time when Hollywood mindlessly churns out reboots and remakes, Inside Out stands alone in its sheer originality and inventiveness. - Metacritic.com
Inside Out Is currently in theaters and is rated PG for thematic elements. And still shares the spotlight with Jurassic World in box office performance.
I enjoyed Jurassic Park and when I went to see this latest installment I was not disappointed. Jurassic World centers Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreations) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Lady in the Water) and several other individuals In mayhem when a newly designed dinosaur develops into a killing machine and kills anything that it sees moving....or breathing..Suddenly a family vacation to the new tourist attraction , Jurassic World , turns into a cluster of danger when the new killer is on the lose. By now you should know that the latest installment to the Jurassic Park franchise has topped, or shall i say , EATEN UP every film recently released or currently playing during its astounding box office performance. If you haven't come across the news yet, within just 24 days (as reported) after its release the latest installment earned $556.54m, making it the fastest film to reach $550m mark.
Jurassic World was undeniably fun - Wesley Lovlell ( Cinema Sight.com)
Jurassic World did not quit feel as adventurous as the first film was. But it delivers chilling moments, grittiness and brings back the same thrilling dinosaur action that we experienced in the first film.
Overall, it is a nice solid effort to reboot this franchise and if you are a fan of blockbuster action movies and can handle the implausibility, this is worth a watch. - Audience Review
Pratt's performance, which is the only one worth mentioning, as the lead role proves in this film he can handle almost any lead role thrown at him. Pratt delivers some humor, enthusiasm and most importantly..heroics.
There are some problems with the film, mainly in the sub plot with the military that is so predictable it's boring, but otherwise the film stands up well and won't disappoint fans of the original film or newcomers to the franchise. Thankfully, it appears that this film ignores what happened in the second and third films. - Audience Review
I entered the theater I expected entertainment, chills and excitement. Jurassic Word delivers exactly that.
ME EARL AND THE DYING GIRL
Here is another well produced film adaption of a great book. Here we get the story of Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann), an awkward high school senior who catches up with - a girl in his class (Olivia Cooke) with whom he hasn't spoken to since kindergarten - who was just diagnosed with cancer.
Cleverly filmed and expertly acted by an outsanding cast, Me & Earl & the Dying Girl is a touching coming of age story with sincerity and heart.
What i like about film adaptions is that if you HAVEN'T read the book the film sometimes tempts you into reading the book. Or reading the book AGAIN.
Me and Earl and The Dying Girl is a film geek's dream of a film, full of surprises and wicked smart to the very end. There's no resisting it.
Me Earl and the Dying girl has received positive reactions including the 2015 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award.
Throughout this excellent film runs a thin, clear fishing line of love. Every actor looked great so let's bow to the director, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. Very, very good. - Audience Review
From the audience reviews ve read and from what I ve heard from what other spectators of the film have told me about their experience seeing the film I have developed a urge to see the film.
Who can say no to these trouble-making little twinkies? Universal Pictures is ready to bring you the back story of how these little critters got to where they are today. Along with fun mayhem, recklessness, silliness and a bunch of
Here we follow the journey of the single celled , yellow organisms. After consistently being unsuccessful at keeping a master three individuals ( Stuart, Kevin and Bob) decide to go on a quest to travel around the world to find a new evil boss. Which takes them to London's super-villain Scarlet Overkill.
It is not moving in any way, but it is entertainingly off-beam and doolally with an eccentricity and quirky charm that can only described as very British. -
Minions has already earned over $124 million internationally.( Boxofficemojo.com), contending with Terminator: Genisys.
Minions is what it is expected to be - all silly fun and nonsense. Unevenly paced, but a delightful animation nonetheless, of a group of the cutest (and most merchandise-friendly!) yellow capsule-like innocent creatures who pursue only one goal - that of serving the baddest boss ever. - Audience Review
If you enjoyed Despicable Me(2010) I expect you to get the same joy out of watching this film. I also expect a roar of laughs every 10 minutes. If you are a lover of the Minions then there is probably a lot to look forward to in this film. Perhaps it wont hurt to practice understanding the language of minions. Im getting better already, watch....banana!
It looks like cinema is going to throw another summer horror flick and this time..it wont involve a clown, but instead a creepy night of terror taking place in a dark auditorium. And we have the front row seat.
I have a good feeling about this one. But no high expectations. I could appreciate a horror flick that is seen as a giant failure in other people's eyes. Same goes for other films I enjoyed. Regardless of how ridiculous this film looks in other's eyes I will most certainly step out to see this film. And I'll make sure I get a large popcorn that I know I wont finish so I don't have to miss a second of the film getting a refill. This film looks comparable to Adam Wingard's V/H/S. But with more darkness...and terror. If you were not a lover a Poltergeist but still looking to give another go at getting a good scare at the theater I feel The Gallows is worth a shot. The Gallows is set to release this Friday.
Films You May Want to AVOID
Lets not forget about the disappointments that we have seen this year. Or maybe its best to do so. And lets not bring up "Poltergeist" which only served as a failure of a reboot and a horror film. I have nothing but sympathy for audiences nowadays who spend money to go see a films that deliver as much as Poltergeist did. But mistakes are avoidable. Which is why you may want to check out my list of films that are probably not worth the time and money to spend. But the choice is yours. Who can blame us for being curious? Lets start with the least bad. Note that I list films based on audience reviews, and from what I hear from conversations with other spectators. And I mentioned a film you've seen and enjoyed, dont take offence.
Another sequel and it wont be the last we'll see of sequels. Arnold once again reprises his role as the Terminator in this latest installment. Ill be honest, Id be surprised if any of you didn't see this coming a mile away.
Is the plot really worth mentioning? Its another plot that places humanity in war with Skynet and machines. Involving the help of Sarah Conner, Arnold as they team up with Kyle Reese and fight to survive a vigorous battle.
I like Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor; she's got the look and the bad-assery, and Jai Courtney has all the action chops for this new franchise. But the actors aren't the problem. Overall, once upon a time, Terminator was an intelligent addition to the science fiction corpus. - Audience Review
Arnold delivers a good performance as he always did in the previous films. However it was the plot that left me confused and other performances that left me in distaste . The plot was confusing, and time travel doesn't seem to help raise suspense at all. For me it doesn't. Kyle Reese goes back in time to save Sarah Connor from a Terminator sent back in time to kill her...and it just gets more confusing from there for me.
Yeah, it's script is dumb. Yeah, both Courtney and Clarke are uninspired. Yeah, the visuals and the set pieces feel stale. But the biggest crime of #terminatorgenisys is that it's bland and forgettable. At least, Arnold is still pretty good. - Audience Review
The film does however deliver the same intense Sci-fi violence and action that we have experienced before. But there's nothing new. If you have seen the previous films a lot in this film will definitely look and sound familiar to you. But that is all. Emilia Clarke fits well into her role( which is one of the two roles worth mentioning) and I felt like I was seeing the original Sarah Conner back in Judgment Day. As we re all supposed to. However for John Conner's role later in the film, which was already spoiled in the trailer, it did not seem to make any sense. Once the plot twist arrived I became even more disinterested.
Why is this getting so much bad reviews? I didn't find it that bad, I actually enjoyed it. Yes I admit that it felt like something was missing, all the time. But the movie isn't that bad, it's a good start for the new trilogy, give it a shot okay? - Audience Review.
If I were to compare this installment to the previous film, Terminator: Salvation, I couldn't really tell you which is better. I would say Salvation passes this installment by a thin line. If someone were to ask me, I would say that this installment could've been better. And a short fight scene with a CGI Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't seem to Overall Genysis has all the action..but that is it. There's no point to the plot..there is nothing interesting here. Terminator: Genysis is currently in theaters and is rated PG-13. If you're gonna go out to catch Genisys..you may want to think twice. But if you re a fan of Sci-Fi action and Arnold,..give this film a shot.
At least cinema is bringing some originality. But personally, I am not quite feeling so positive about this one. Usually in mystery and suspenseful films, a world where a dying person can undergoes a radical medical procedure that can transfer their consciousness into the body of a healthy young person perhaps could be an acception. By the looks of the trailer I can tell that it won't be so easy to avoid confusion in the film..and interest. Ryan Reynolds and Ben Kingsley arrive in theaters this Friday.
What will YOU see This Weekend?
This weekend is looking like long lines, packed auditoriums and endless requests for extra butter. Nowadays going out to see a feature is expensive. I ask myself sometimes before printing out the AMC movie showtimes "Is it worth it?" Well it depends,,,do you feel like you would enjoy this film? Spend the time and money if you do so. But as I said before; mistakes are avoidable. That means before you leave the house to see the feature do some research; Look up reviews...not CRITIC reviews..AUDIENCE reviews. Ask other friends about what they thought about the film. These steps determine whether you'll leave the auditorium satisfied..or very disappointed. Like I said before; mistakes are avoidable .Let us know in the comments below which films YOU are excited about and what you will be watching this weekend. And remember...get extra butter.
