San Diego Comic-Con is one of the most star-sudden events to hit the city. Fans from around the country (and the world) decent on the city to revel in their love for comics, sic-fi, fantasy and video/computer games, and so much more.
It's of course a log cry from the days when fanboys would be beaten up for reading a comic book during study hall or used as some jock's punching bag because he wore a Spider-Man T-shirt.
If fact nerds, geeks and fanboys (and girls) can now revel in a new poll that sticks it to all those jerky jocks that made junior high and high school almost unbearable.
In a recent poll conducted by a local paper, the San Diego Union Tribune, voters deemed San Diego Comic-Con to be more important to San Diego than the San Diego Chargers (that's an NFL team, for those ultra fanboys out there who may not know too much about sports).
The vote came about when both Comic-Con and the Chargers were talking about leaving the city. When put to a vote, 60 percent of voters, voted to keep Comic-Con over the Chargers in San Diego. Since then, Comic-Con has worked out a deal to remain in San Diego until 2018. As for the Chargers, their fate is still up in the air, with rumors pointing to the team moving to LA.

On a special note— I hope fans will be on the lookout for Kevin Doyle (57). Kevin's wife (a big Star Wars fan) recently died of brain cancer and to honor her memory, Kevin has dressed up in a Stormtrooper costume and is walking to SDCC from his home in Minnesota— a 600 mile journey. He's expected to reach San Diego on Thursday. I hope fans and the SDCC planners will do something special for Kevin to welcome him.
San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 9th - 12th.
