The Kingdom Hearts series is as famous for its convoluted story as it is for its difficulty. One of the main issues that almost every gaming publication had with the original Kingdom Hearts following its release date was its unapologetic difficulty. In response to these issues, Square Enix attempted to even out the difficulty level with Kingdom Hearts 2. However, the difficulty of the Kingdom Hearts series has become something that fans love about this fascinating franchise just as much as its Disney characters!
Therefore, we're wondering what approach Square Enix will be taking towards Kingdom Hearts 3. Will they be hoping to reach a wider audience with a more commercial difficulty level? Or will hardcore fans of the series be revelling in the game's difficulty? We thought we'd take a look at the hardest bosses in the Kingdom Hearts series as a celebration of the Kingdom Hearts legacy.
Kingdom Hearts 3 - Will it Be As Hard As These Boss Fights?
It can be as tough as the boss fights themselves to pin down the most difficult boss fights in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. After all, we each have our own fighting styles and one particular enemy may prove to be more challenging than another purely based on how we chose to progress in the games. But after having scoured the internet and recalled my own hellish experiences with these bosses, we think we've found the list of the most challenging characters and worlds in Kingdom Hearts!
First up we have the hellish duel in Kingdom Hearts 2 & KH 2 Final Remix with Terra or The Lingering Will. The monster. I stopped playing Kingdom Hearts 2 when I was younger after reaching this guy - I couldn't believe how difficult the fight was. His attack patterns were so unpredictable and even if you fought him for ages, he'd still find a way to come in swinging and annihilate you. I'm a huge fan of the Dark Souls series, but the kind of difficulty in Kingdom Hearts infuriated me more. Not sure what that says about me. In any case, having finally beat him all these years later, I seriously hope Kingdom Hearts 3 doesn't piss me off to the same degree.
Next up we have the Mysterious Figure, aka Young Xehanort, from Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. He's actually a secret boss in the game and a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans have despaired over the choice to face him. It's one of those fights that you engage with and start screaming "Isn't this series supposed to be geared towards children?!? WTF?!" No? Just me?
Next up we have one boss that drove me up the wall, Rikunort from the original Kingdom Hearts. No matter how long I fought against him, no matter how many patterns I learned, the guy just seemed to destroy me. I knew I was so close to completing Kingdom Hearts and the fact that this guy was standing in the way of that accomplishment drove me insane as a kid. But what about you guys?
What Were the Hardest Worlds & Characters For You in Kingdom Hearts?
The difficulty level in this completely absurd!
This quote comes from one infuriated gamer on gamefaqs and I feel their pain! Even some of the worlds in the Kingdom hearts series were a pain. If you accidentally fell off the side of a cliff, you were going to have to do a stupid amount of walking in order to get back to where you were. And of course, all the enemies would be there waiting for you once more. It was a nightmare, but you've got to have a challenge in a game! Otherwise there's not much point.
