DC has have a lot of success with their CW shows. And sometime next year, they are adding another. Today, they released a new promo for their upcoming show, [DC's Legends of Tomorrow](tag:2937021).
The video starts with Arrow, zooms over to The Flash, and ends with introducing the new heroes in Legends. It's a cool trailer that tells us very little about the show.
So, what do we already know?
The Atom- If you watch Arrow you will know this hero already. Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) is a billionaire who bought out Oliver Queen's business. He become a hero when he designed and built the Atom suit, which for most of his time on Arrow was a lot like the Iron man armor. At the end of Arrow's season 3 finale, Palmer was adding nanotech to his suit and it resulted in an explosion. Obviously, he survives if he is in this show. And it looks like he finally shrink.
White Canary- When Caity Lotz was announced for the series, no one was quite sure if she would reprise her role from Arrow or be a new character. Turns out a little bit of both. Lotz will, once again, be playing Sara Lance, the girl who was dead, then not dead, then dead again. Turns out she is not dead. Well, resurrected. And instead being the Canary, she'll return as the White Canary. Her skills as a fighter will be the same, but her personality will be different on account of the Lazarus Pit.
Firestorm- The hero who needs two characters. In The Flash, Firestorm is created when Dr, Marin Stein (Victor Garber) and Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) fuse together. The weird part about Firestorm's inclusion is that only Garber is part of the main cast. And they are being cryptic about how much Amell will be involved, though his confirmed to be apart The Flash season 2. And Firestorm can be seen in action in the trailer and promo art work.
Captain Cold and Heat Wave- The pair of criminals that join the team. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) terrorized the characters of The Flash throughout the first season. Why these two would want to join the team is unclear but, their inclusion should lead to some interesting things.
Rip Hunter- Played by Doctor Who's Arthur Darvill, Hunter is a described as "a roguish member of the Time Masters, an organization that protects history itself." A time traveler, Hunter comes back from the future to form the team to stop a terrible event from happening. This would be the first time Hunter appears in live-action since his creation in 1959.
Hawkgirl- Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renee) is a young woman who has reincarnated a whole lot of times over the centuries. When she is provoked, her hidden warrior is unleashed causing her to gain wings. She appeared once before in live-action in Smallville and became popular as one of the leads in the Justice League cartoon.
Jay Jackson- A former high school athlete who could go pro because of injuries, Jackson (Franz Drameh) develops an affiliation with the S.T.A.R. Labs crew. When he was first announced, Jay was described as "mystery hero". There are no characters named "Jay Jackson" in the comics, so most assume he will take the superhero identity from someone else. Though some have speculated that he might become Stein's other have to create Firestorm.
Hawkman- The character was announced at SDCC. No casting or details have been released. But I can't say I am surprised. Where there is a Hawkgirl, Hawkman is not far behind.
Of course, you will run into characters from the other shows. Arrow and the Flash can be seen in the first trailer. And S.T.A.R. Labs is mentioned. And you can probably bet on Laurel and Felicity and others from Starling City will also show up once or twice.
Here is the official synopsis for the series.
When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known? DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW stars Victor Garber (“The Flash,” “Alias”); Brandon Routh (“Arrow,” “Superman Returns”); Arthur Darvill (“Doctor Who”); Caity Lotz (“Arrow”); Ciarra Renee (“Pippin”); Franz Drameh (“Edge of Tomorrow”); with Dominic Purcell (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”); and Wentworth Miller (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”). Based on the characters from DC Comics, DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” upcoming “Pan”), Marc Guggenheim (“Arrow,” “Eli Stone,” “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters”), Andrew Kreisberg (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Eli Stone,” “Warehouse 13”) and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” upcoming “Pan”).
Showrunner Phil Klemmer told Entertainment Weekly that the characters aren't always going to live up to the title of "Legends".
“They’re screwups,” Klemmer says. “Instead of tiptoeing through history, they’re plodding through it, leaving their footprints and fingerprints and constantly having to wonder whether they’re going to screw the future up rather than fix it… It’s going to be total madness.”
The CW has announced the main antagonist of Legends of Tomorrow will be Vandal Savage. The actor playing him has yet to be revealed. Vandal is immortal and controls a vast army that the Legends will have to fight as they travel through time to save the world. Little is known about the character as pertains to the series itself.
When will it air?
The show goes into production in August. It will have a 13 episode first season. It will premiere in January, 2016. There is no set date, day, or timeslot.
