The second weekend of July brings three new movies to theaters near you.
Minions is about the little yellow guys people loved in the Despicable Me movies. This is their own spinoff movie and they have to go and find new villains to work for just like they always have. The movies stars the voices of Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, and Allison Janney. It is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. Minions has gotten mixed reviews from both audiences and critics. Watch the trailer here.
The Gallows is a horror movie about how 20 years after a terrible accident at a school play, students resurrect the failed stage production to honor the anniversary of the tragedy. Ultimately, things go wrong and horrific events occur (it is a found-footage movie if you know what that means). The movie stars Reese Mishler, Pfeifer Brown, Ryan Shoos, and Cassidy Gifford. It is directed by Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing. The Gallows has gotten atrocious reviews from audiences and critics. Watch the trailer here.
Self/less is a sci-fi/thriller movie about how an extremely wealthy man undergoes a radical medical procedure that transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man. Things go out of hand after that and all is not as it seems. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Natalie Martinez, Matthew Goode, and Ben Kingsley. It is directed by Tarsem Singh. Self/less has gotten mixed reviews from audiences and bad reviews form critics. Watch the trailer here.
For the weekend, Minions should take the lead with a massive $114 million opening weekend. Jurassic World, Inside Out, and Terminator Genisys should take the next three spots and The Gallows should come in fifth with $12 million. Self/less should come in ninth with a meager $3 million.
Minions has a reasonable budget of $74 million while Self/less has a budget of $26 million. The Gallows has a micro budget of $100K.
That's it for this weekend. Go watch a movie.
