We've seen the teaser trailer from the upcoming blockbuster DCCU cornerstone film....
Now comes the first full trailer from this years San Diego Comic Con. Watch it and then we'll go into detail with what we've watched.
It looks like we're getting a Superman that will have to answer to Congress about what happened in Metropolis with Zod from the first movie. Apparently this has stirred a lot of xenophobia amongst the populace, as we can derive from the signs being held as Supes arrives.
Then we get clips of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, from what we can tell, in Metropolis during the Zod/Superman battle. He's on the ground level running into the carnage as other bystanders are running away from it. He's left holding a little girl in the midst of the ruins of a Wayne Financial building. This is most likely a flashback scene and is one of the reasons for Batman trying to take out Supes.
Then we get a scene of Bruce walking towards, what we think is, the abandoned grounds of Wayne Manor. He's walking inside possibly the Batcave, which if it is, looks very modern and not so "cavey". He opens a letter from someone trying to get under his skin by telling him he let his family die. All of this seemingly leads him to begin training anew to take up the mantle of the Bat, as seen in the very next scene.
We finally get our first glimpse of Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and he looks great! Clark and Perry having a heated discussion about the "Bat Vigilante". then we get Lois telling Supes that he gives people hope and his mother telling him that he doesn't owe the world "a thing, you never did". So we may be getting a conflicted Superman about what he should do in the aftermath of all the hate and fear from the Metropolis battle.
And here's our hipster looking Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg. We are not at all liking this look, hopefully it changes at some point to the Lex we all know and loathe. He's trying to sway Holly Hunter's Senator character into something. Then we see he has possession of Zod's body. Could this lead to experiments by Luthor that down the road produce Bizarro!? Hopefully!
We then get a glimpse of a Robin costume that seems to be spray painted by the Joker. So, from what we've seen so far we're going to assume that Bruce stopped being Batman after the possible death of a Robin (Jason Todd?) at the hands of the Joker. Maybe the cowl was filled by Dick Grayson while Bruce was away? Maybe he never stopped being Batman but instead just kept a low profile? Who knows, but he's obviously lost a Robin at some point.
We see Gal Gadot as Diana Prince. Batman turns on the Bat-Signal and says he needs to destroy Superman. That seems a little out of character since Batman doesn't kill. Then some quick cut scenes of someone scuba diving for a rock (Kryptonite?) in water, a posse on horseback, what looks to be the Waynes being robbed in an alley (flashback?), and is that Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne? Gal Gadot in action as Wonder Woman (She looks pretty good!) What looks to be a Superman military squad taking on Batman. Alfred telling Bruce that Superman is not their enemy. Lex Luthor finding a hunk of Kryptonite in a glass case.
Then we see some action scenes of Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman fighting. Looks like the metal Batman suit is working as far as being able to knock Supes around a bit. Then we're left with a final scene of Superman and Batman coming face to face after Superman rips the front off of the new Bat-mobile.
This was very good first trailer for the film. It gave us action, drama, and tons of questions that will hopefully be answered in this film and not subsequent ones. The appearance of Jeffrey Dean Morgan was unexpected and cool. Gal Gadot looks great as Wonder Woman. Ben Affleck makes for a good Bruce Wayne so far but the Batman portion leaves us feeling a little "meh". No clips of Aquaman, Cyborg, or Flash though. Sure hope they don't wait until the final 10 minutes of the film to give us those characters.
What did you think of the trailer? What are your expectations for the film? Let us know below!
As a side note, we did a scan of the IMDB page for the film and found a few things.
Jena Malone is still only rumored to be in the film. Is it possible we could still see her as Carrie Kelley/Robin?
Callan Mulvey (300 Rise of an Empire & Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Bailey Chase (Longmire & Saving Grace), and Scoot McNairy (Argo, 12 Years a Slave, & Non-Stop) have yet to be cast as anyone.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan who obviously plays Thomas Wayne is not listed at all.
Dan Amboyer (Younger & William and Kate) plays a drone pilot and has a certain look about him...could this be Hal Jordan?
Demi Kazanis is playing Lex Luthor's girlfriend. The new Ms. Tesmacher anyone?
Christina Wren is reprising her role as Carrie Farris. Is she going to be the Carol Ferris we know as Star Saphire?
