Today was the 3rd day of the 2015 Comic-con International held in San Diego, California. Everyone was really excited about today because the Warner Bros. Panel was today and we (myself included) were waiting on the announcements on the upcoming DC Extended Universe. As such, they did not disappoint but at the same time, (to my predictions) I believe they only reveal half of what we were expecting. This is my review of the top 3 things (really only 3 things) they revealed, and the 3 things that I think they should have explained more on or revealed:
1: Pro: New BVS Trailer
Of course, the thing everyone was expecting was a new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And be patience and ye shall receive! (or..something like that) they did reveal the 3 minute 30 second trailer for not just comic-con attendees, but for the whole internet viewing world as well.
Superman is brought before the justice department to be held accountable for his actions that resulted in the destruction of greater Metropolis and the deaths of many human beings. Bruce Wayne is in Metropolis during the fight between Kal and Zod, as he runs towards his crumbling tower. Bruce returns to the Batcave as Alfred (Jeremy Irons) tells Bruce about events like this can hurl the soul into darkness. Batman comes out of retirement to send messages to Superman that he is not welcome. Both Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane) tell Clark that he doesn't owe Earth anything. A senator (Holly Hunter) goes to consult a long-haired Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and he references Superman as the Devil. It is also revealed that Luthor does indeed possess a piece of Kryptonite and the corpse of General Zod (Michael Shannon). Batman stares at the suit of his dead protege (most likely the Jason Todd version of Robin killed by the Joker) and realizes that only he can stop Superman, so he dons a powered suit and signals Superman with his own Bat-signal to confront him. We see that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is indeed taking the role of Thomas Wayne, as well as the Batwing flying over a burning landscape. Our first official footage of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Batman in a desert taking on Superman's private task force, another shot of Wonder Woman and the massive fight between Batman and Superman as Lex Luthor quotes that the red capes are coming (referring to the age of superheroes). The trailer ends with Superman ripping the hood of the Batmobile off with Batman standing up before him.
All in all, it was a pretty awesome trailer! Can't wait for this movie!
2: Pro: Green Lantern Reboot new title
They officially confirmed that the 2020 Green Lantern Reboot is to be called Green Lantern Corps, referring that the film will focus on multiple Green Lanterns such as Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner.
3: Pro: Suicide Squad Teaser trailer already?!
To everyone's surprise, the cast of the 3rd DC film Suicide Squad appeared right after BVS. And Director David Ayer gave audiences a glance at a teaser trailer that they already constructed. The footage was only meant for attendees, but of course, soon after the panel ended, the trailer leaked online. I was able to see it through this link I found.
If you get through, awesome! If you don't, they got to it first. But it does look pretty good! Of course, all eyes were on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Jared Leto's Joker.
1: Con: Not much on other heroes
One thing that I didn't see or hear was more information on the other members of the Justice League, most notably Jason Momoa's Aquaman. I read somewhere that they did show some concept art of Ezra Miller's Flash, Ray Fisher's Cyborg, and the League itself.
2: Con: No Lantern Casting
Although they revealed the new title of the Green Lantern Reboot, which was going to feature several Earth Green Lanterns, the casting for these Lanterns remains mum. Although there were reports that it was going to be Chris Pine as Hal Jordan and Tyrese Gibson as John Stewart, neither were in attendance and both roles remain up in the air.
3: Con: Mum on development movies
There are currently 3 movies that have gained significant ground to be placed on the development stage and are most likely going to be apart of this universe in the near future: The solo Batman film, a Man of Steel sequel, and Gulilermo Del Toro's take on Dark Universe. The Batman film has been confirmed by inside sources and will be directed and co-written by Ben Affleck himself, but a releaes date has not been set, Man of Steel 2 is only in consideration, and after Del Toro left, the future of Dark Universe is up in the air.
This is my review of DC's announcement at 2015 Comic-con San Diego. I give it a solid 80-85%, even though it was lacking in certain areas, it was still pretty awesome!
