Superstar actress Jennifer Lawrence will continue to take Hollywood by storm once the box office series, The Hunger Games, comes to an end this November in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. Lawrence is set to play the romantic lead in the big screen adaptation of The Rosie Project, one of the bestselling Australian books of recent years. The Graeme Simsions
Author Graeme Simsion’s debut novel is the story of a socially awkward genetics professor, Don Tillman, who devises a questionnaire to find the perfect mate and then meets Rosie, a bartender who matches none of his criteria. The book made it on to Bill Gates’s 2013 summer reading list.
“The hero of The Rosie Project is one of those rare fictional characters destined to take up residence in the popular consciousness.”
Published in 2013, Sony Pictures quickly snapped up the rights. The rom-com film is in development by Columbia Pictures and includes screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H Weber, the team behind 500 (Days of Summer).
Lawrence is attached to the role of Rosie, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is still seeking its male lead and a director after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. With Jennifer Lawrence now cast in the role, we can be sure to see a director put their hand up anytime soon.
Lawrence is perfect for the role as she has already proven her rom-com prowess, winning the best actress Oscar in 2013 for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, opposite Bradley Cooper. She is also in pre-production for the space romance Passengers, for which she is reportedly being paid more than her co-star Chris Pratt.
'The Rosie Project' lays the foundation for what could be a end up being another multi-film deal for Lawrence as Simsion's more recently published sequel, 'The Rosie Effect' could follow.
